WTF Advocate?

I shouldn't be surprised after 15 years in the TBLG community to see the Advocate failing when it comes to talking about trans issues.

But this disastrous May 22 op-ed from cisgender woman Suzan Revah swimming in vanillacentric privilege and appropriation was an eye-rolling experience that I fortunately read on an empty stomach.

It was also highly insulting to read that jacked up op-ed when three girls like us who share my ethnic background were killed last month and we are two weeks from the first of the five accused killers of Evon Young being tried in Milwaukee.

OK, someone help me with this. Sounds like Roberts is way off-base here (and I usually agree with her or at least see her point of view).

First of all:
QuoteWe are also the final authorities as to what is and isn't trans
Is she saying Revah doesn't get to identify herself among the Trans umbrella? How can she claim to know Revah's gender identity better than Revah herself does?

Then there's the implication that because Revah is white, she's unqualified to call attention to what she sees as injustice.

How is that anything but racism?

Finally she reprints a comment that seeks to invalidate Revah's claims because "you called yourself a "normal Real Girl". The implication that if you pronoun yourself as your birth gender, you're cisgendered.

Isn't it possible that Ms. Revah is non-binary gendered and chooses to identify male in some aspects and female in others?

Am I reading Roberts right?

Unless I'm missing something, it seems like Roberts' rant is FAR more offensive and closed-minded than anything in Revah's.

Have you read my short story The Eve of Triumph?

I just read this and also stopped at THAT point. Just wow!
