I am happy to say that I just had my surgery yesterday morning and am feeling fantastic! I got to see my chest this morning (still got the sponges on though) and it looks fantastic! I've got almost no bruising and everything looks even and symmetrical so far!

As I lay here in bed I wanted to share some tips i've been coming across with anyone who is considering top surgery!

1. You're going to ITCH and it's going to SUCK! Make sure the person taking care of you is happy to scratch your back for you. My poor mom's scratched my back about ten times today! It seems the second you CAN'T reach the itch, you start to itch lol.

2. Stay ontop of your pain killers.

3. When you wake up, (after napping through the day) you're going to hurt like hell! Everything seems to settle while you laying down so the second you try to get up everything huuuurts. However if you've been taking your pain killer it will fade quickly.

4. Blankets blankets blankets! I'm in a climate that is much warmer than my home climate and I have woken up freezing several times. For the most part it's a combo of the adrenaline and drugs that makes you freeze but, at least for me, I started violently shivering and it was hurting so much, I couldn't get blankets on fast enough. So keep three blankets around and have your helper ready to put them on you quick.

5. And finally, No one tells you this. Using the bathroom is fine, but it's incredibly difficult to wipe! I promise no one's ever warned you about that. Just take your time and maneuver till your comfy.

For anyone curious I was a double D/E and had a double incision w/free grafts.

Cheers guys!

For me, I don't remember top surgery hurting very much at all.  It would be more of a "pulling" feeling.  I'm currently recovering from a total hysto (just over one week) and comparing the two, the top is a walk in the park.

Should we bring along the Freedom Wand? http://www.elderstore.com/freedom-wand-self-wipe-toilet-aid.aspx  :D

LearnedHand I would highly recommend it! Seriously having to sort of 'relax' with your hand between your legs just so you can wipe is one of the oddest things i've ever done in my life XD.

@Stenomaster: I had very large breasts and lots of upperbody fat to accompany it, so they had to do a LOT of liposuction. The spots that hurt are the locations they lipo'd me at, the stitches where they did the actual surgery are as you described, tight, but not painful. However the spots where they took my fat hurt like a SOB lol.

@Simon, thanks for the well wishes!

Congrats! None of those things really applied to me, I was surprised by how generally non-painful it was. I didn't get DI though, it was really small incisions and some lipo.

The one thing I wish someone had told me is that sometimes drains can leak, so bring along a towel or something else you don't mind getting blood on for the ride home. It probably won't happen but if it does it will be SO ANNOYING.

That's a good tip. The surgeon I used doesn't do drains because the results tend to be the same if not better without them, so i haven't had to deal with drains (thank god! Cause they freak me out) but I did 'leak' a bit onto my binder >_< I felt a bit bad because i'm staying in a hotel so I think I bled on one of the sheets, oops!

Another thing I discovered today, get yourself some surgical tape! The nurse didn't give me any, so when I went to change my bandages I had to have my mom awkwardly hold the bandage while I tried to velco my binder closed. Let's just say it was a lot of finagling and it didn't really work! We bought some surgical tape today, gently taped the bandage to my chest and bam! easy peasy to get my binder on! It's the small things that help lol.

I'm so excited, today was kind of ->-bleeped-<-ty, because we went to move to a new hotel today (had separate rooms so me and my mom could be away from one another a bit, since she snores) and an outdoor space and a kitchen, so we could save money and cook. It was disgusting. The walls looked like someone had been beating them with a hammer, the furniture was all chewed up and the bed was covered in someones hair! *puke* It was so gross. So we ended up coming back to the hotel  adjoining the clinic I got my surgery done at. So much better! So despite all that excitement everything has stopped hurting again and I am not relaxing.

I love how much chest is looking and just how much better I look without boobs. I put on my new sweater I'd bought myself to wear while I was out here. I had gotten it a size smaller, since I knew i'd no longer have to accommodate my chest and it's too big!!! I've dropped two shirt/sweater sizes! I am so happy. Now i've just got my fingers crossed for my nipples to heal up great and I'll be so incredibly blown away. I'll be posting photos of my chest once I get the grafts off cause I'm just so excited to share!
