So my therapist has recommended that I attend Southern Comfort this year in Atlanta.

I doubt I will be far enough along in this process to show up as a woman. However I am looking for someone to hang out with while there. I have no idea of what to expect or where to go.

So is anyone else going that wouldn't mind taking me in under their wing?

Yeah my therapist wants me to go so I probably will. This will be my first one I started therapy like a week or two after last years one so I missed out. But everyone I have talked to that has been loved it so I'm looking forward to it. :)

I'm sure there will be plenty of gals 'not far along' who will be expressing their feminine self!

Don't you feel you'd be missing a huge opportunity?  :)
I will see how things go before then. Right now I have only practiced my voice for about a month when in private and have been working out to ditch the boy fat on my tummy and even out my legs.

If either of you are willing I would like some people to talk to and hang out with so that I don't feel like a big goober walking around all by myself.

I don't think should worry about not passing at the moment. You can use this opportunity to get out in a safe environment and be yourself. My voice totally didn't pass when I first started and still don't on most days but I still get out as myself it may not be as much as I like but the key is to get out and get comfortable being myself. And scc sounds like a good place to make new friends so don't worry about how you look we all have to start somewhere's and we all understand that I was horrible looking when I first started going out and I was embarrassed but to be honest I wouldn't trade those moments for anything. They only solidified my decision was the right decision for me. And that realization helps me get through the bad days where I feel hopeless. So get out there and be yourself Christine I seriously doubt you'll regret it! :)

I'll give it a go. I'm not ready for dresses or anything like that so I hope a girly Tshirt and jeans are okay.

I've only wore a dress once in public and I really don't think I'll try for sometime maybe scc but then again I kinda like keeping it simple.

I was looking into going too. I am not far along either and had the same concerns about being alone !
I noticed that they have a big sister program where it appears you can get the comfort and introductions you need to get going.
And if you think about it; most others will be near the begining like us anyway, because fewer trans women will want to go if they are already transitioned. ( just a guess if course) but i am hoping to attend at least a small portion of it if possible. They way I see it, life as a trans has bigger challenges other than walking into a room of people who understand what you are going through!! And have ALL had to START and /or question transition just like yourself.  Believe me because I'm one of them.

A mans gotta do what a mans gottta do.. Even if it's being a woman!

That sounds great. Lord knows I could use some in person guidance from someone who isn't my therapist every now and then.  :)

Have you tried going to a group therapy it's a great way to meet people and get some advice.

I'm still looking. There is one group but they meet here twice a year. There is pflag but they have yet to call my wife and I back yet.

So it is looking like I will have to be doing some driving to attend any meetings.

This year will be my first time to attend Southern Comfort Conference and from my understanding you should be fine wearing what you want no matter how early you are in your process. I have heard nothing but positive things about the conference and I believe they have a first timers assistance to help those that are a little nervous their first time.
