so im trying to plan ahead which is better for someone to get who will be having lets say two kids?

Personal opinion but, you can't 'own' a condo.

Beyond that, it all depends on where you plan to live and work, where I am there is no such thing as condos and townhouses are rare.

House, remember too, that condos and townhomes are usually associated with some sort of "association" that can often turn out to be run by tyrannical power hungry little bitches and then you have the fees to pay as well. Houses can too, but not always like townhomes and condos are.

Plus I think a house holds value much better than townhomes and condos and are often built better too. Not to mention the potential for a private yard.

With houses, you are in control of yard maintenance.  Which can be a plus or minus depending whether or not you like yard work.

I would agree....house for sure. I think you get more privacy owning a home as well!

   Homes are a better investment.Before you buy check to see if there is a homeowners association
if there is you can have monthly or quarterly fees, restrictions on many different things its unbelievable what they restrict, and a group that imposes fines if you don't comply. I know I was VP of one for seven years and had to deal with all the BS.
  Pro's, the area has a uniform policy and everybody has to follow it hence the values increase
and the neighborhood  is a good investment. Just a thought.

I personally would get in a condo or coop if I could because I want to live in the city not the suburbs.

If you are living in the suburbs houses all the way, condos and townhouses in the suburbs dont save enough money to really offset the disadvantages there.

Also, just to note excepting rural areas ownership doesn't mean an end to payments condos and coops have fees for the building and a great deal of houses and townhouses have homeowners association dues....

And some homeowners association can do things like issue fines if you dont prune your trees in a certain way or cut your grass on time,etc. It is hard to have a place you can just do as  you please these days.
