There's not a single planned parenthood in Orange County, CA with TG services

How messed up is that? Every single one that claims to help LGBT has an asterisk noting they don't offer transgender services. It's such bull. I got excited for a second when I heard PP can provide T. Then checked every one, and they all had that stupid asterisk. Back to square one again I guess.

Same, I was told to see about planned parenthood about TG stuff for my state (NC), and there's only one in my entire state that offers it, and they're too far away for me.

Kyle, maybe they can give you a referral.

Or you can try this:

ORANGE COUNTY TRANSMEN

Rap group that offers transmen and others a chance to network, socialize, access resources, and get updates on current female-to-male transsexual/transgender community activities and information. Meets last Sunday night of each month at 7pm.
The Center Orange County

Call The Center for directions or any other info.

Dean, yea the only ones I've seen with TG services are as far north as San Francisco or down in San Diego, it's frustrating.

Jamie, I've known about that group for a long time. Every month I try to build up the courage to go but have yet to be successful. This month may be the one though. I'm getting antsy.

I'd be bitterly sending them all complaints of mislabeling and telling them you think they should remove the T from their LGBT stance if they are not helping the trans community. I can't offer any other advice but I am sorry you're having such a hard go at it though.

Bastian, that was my first thought. I still might do just that. False advertising is bullsh!t.

It's ONLY in Orange County. All other California Planned Parenthoods with LGBT services don't exclude transgender. It's discrimination full on. Why only in the OC?

Ask them, make and file a complaint. Maybe they have a real reason or maybe they are discriminating. If you feel up for a challenge i'd start digging and see what comes of it. Maybe you can whoop them into shape so they start offering transgender services, maybe they have no one with knowledge in that department to run the system in your county. Hell there could be a job opening if you were keen ;)

There's a once a month ftm group I'm going to this month. Hopefully someone will know of somewhere. The closest planned parenthood without the trans exclusion is two hours away. So if I become desperate, and save up some gas money, that's a possibility. I had just found out that PP can do free blood tests and other affordable stuff I would need to do to get on T, so when the "LGBT supporting" one next door to me, as well as all others in Orange County, had that exclusion I was beyond pissed. Cause one second I'm think T is gonna be easier to get than i thought, then the next second i realize its actually not.

There's very very few that offer hrt for us. But they do offer reproductive health services for us without discrimination.

I'm in southern California. Check out the LA Gay and Lesbian Center. They offer trans healthcare (including T) on a sliding scale. I'm not sure of any other resources in Orange County besides private physicians but really LA is only about an hour away.

Also yeah I definitely encourage you to check out the FTM group....I went a few times a while back and everyone was always really nice and helpful. I'm sure they'd be able to point you in the right direction.

If you have any other questions, you can always PM me. Nice to see someone nearby on here.

jxpx, thanks man. Yea I'll definitely look into to LA center then, and I'm feeling even better about going to the group this month so that's good. I dunno, just this past week or so I was finally just like ->-bleeped-<- it I need to start taking some serious steps to transition medically and get my life known as male moving. I'd been holding myself back because I thought I'd be too scared once I started getting things moving and that it would all feel wrong. But it's all just making me feel better about transitioning and more confident about making permanent changes.

Heh... Well guys, all i can say is that i am jealous. You guys have a lot of support groups and services for transgender people out there. Here, in Eastern Europe, we have nothing. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. I live in Bulgaria but i am originally from Lithuania. Eastern Europe is awful for transgender people. If you go to the doctor and tell them you are FTM or MTF they will not know what to do with you. Their first (and second) thought is that you are completely crazy and you have to be locked in a mental hospital and get your head examined. Some of them still think transsexualism can be cured!

The majority of population hate gays and lesbians but when it comes to transsexuals - they hate us even more! They don't know anything about us, they don't understand why we are the way we are and they have no desire to be tolerant towards us. Hate crimes are kind of normal here.

Our health insurances do not cover anything related to transition. If you want to transition here, you must pay for everything out of your own pocket. More than that, you have to travel abroad to have your surgery done coz nobody is doing it here.

Also, if you want to change your documents and get the new ones with your male name and an "M" for your gender, you MUST have a sex change operation done! You can't change your documents if you look and live like a man. Even if you are on T and you have had your top surgery done - it means nothing to them. You must physically be a man, only then you can have your documents changed.

Now guys, think about this. I think you have it really good there. Whenever you are sad and depressed, just think about other transgender people out there and i hope you can feel better knowing that there are a lot of guys and girls who are in a much worse situation than you are.

I have never and will never feel like I have it worse than a trans guy in Eastern Europe or similarly (for lack of better word) unprogressive region. But that doesn't mean I'm not allowed to feel sad or angry about what my area IS lacking.

Of course you have the right to feel sad or angry! I just wanted to make you feel a little bit better. :)
  •

KamTheMan

I can appreciate that, but I'm not the kind of person that's comforted by the fact that other people have lives far sh!tier than my own. That's absolutely heartbreaking.

Well, me too... But at least you know you are doing a little bit better than we are here in Eastern Europe... Some people are trying to seek political asylum in the West cos it's so bad here. And one FTM guy took the Republic of Lithuania to the Strasbourg court and he wanted them to change some laws on transgendered people, mostly the laws about changing your sex in your documents. They didn't do it and he still has his passport with his female name in it and the letter ''F'' as his gender. They paid him something like 40.000 euro for this as a compensation but his life is still miserable because his documents are not right.

That feeling of worry and being scared that it's not going to work or not the right thing? And then feeling better about it the closer you move to going forward with medical transition? Yea that's how I felt and let me tell you - when you sit in front of the doctor and they give you the prescription you just automatically know it WAS the right thing to do. I have never felt so at peace with myself, so happy, so ready to face the world with a new smile.
