Check cashed, no Ins. Card for over a month, lawyer up?

Rundown is this: I'm supposed to have COBRA coverage.  I made my payment for June in early June (right after they finally sent me a payment plan) and I still don't have insurance (as far as the insurance company is concerned).  So all my therapy and meds for the last month plus have been coming out of my pocket.  Combined we're talking about $1,500 in expenses here (that's inducing the so far worthless premium payment I made).

I'm getting upset and starting to think about lawyering up or at least threatening in the effort of getting some movement here.  Is that wise?

This will sound both dumb and obvious. Did they receive the payment? Was the check cashed? If they didn't then you may have to do the stop payment and resend thing. If they did receive it, it is time to call them first and ask about coverage. One time I had coverage but no card for about 3 months.

If you made the payment on time and coverage was supposed to start in June, the odds are everything will be retroactive. Save your receipts, you would be reimbursed.

What should you do? I've never dealt with COBRA. Do you make the payment to the insurance company or your former employment. If it is to your former employment, they are the ones you need to contact.

Getting a lawyer involved would probably be a waste of money though. Just keep bugging them yourself.

I know the check was cashed thanks to my bank.  My problem is I'm already running short on money cause of these darn medical expenses but I can still find funds to annoy those responsible.

I'm just to the point where I want to give this system combustible lemons.  I can't stand it when people go quiet on me when my money is involved.  Thought a lawyer, or threat of one, might make em' chatty again.

Then calling them on it hasn't gotten them to send a card? Maybe it is time to threaten a lawyer, although if you were union before and can call them, they can do wonders for you even after you aren't working.

Most states have an bureau that deals with insurance disputes. In our state it's with the attorney general's office.

To clarify, did you try talking on the phone? What did they say is causing the delay?

I've called and e-mailed. 

My old employer closed and the parent company of my old employer was supposed to take over my COBRA.  That hasn't happened yet, though they cashed my check over two weeks ago now.

Current job's insurance is very discriminatory so I don't want to use it when it becomes available to me cause it'll be more expensive than COBRA provided I can get matters sorted out.  At least on the 15th I'll have time off so I can interview again.  I can't wait to get outta here and be treated fairly once more.

Who have you been contacting? The insurance company or the the parent company?
Don't bother contacting the insurance company. They wouldn't know you exist until after your parent company tells them that they should start coverage for you.

I deal with the insurance section at my job. They only send out updates to the carriers twice a month, but they can make your start date retroactive. If someone here were to try and contact the insurance company asking about their new coverage and when it will start they would be told to contact the insurance section here.

I've been trying my COBRA administrator, my old employer and the insurance company trying to get some visibility into what's going on.
