Ok, I started the day feeling... scared. Later, just gorgeous. It was the first day that I went out not only presenting female, but with a dress, matching hi-heeled sandals with perfectly painted red toenails... I never felt so free.

The girls at work were actually feeling a small envy about how well I can do manicures and pedicures, and how toned my legs are (zero fat, all muscle). For one moment, I started wanting to cry of happiness. They only saw one flaw: The dress needed a wide belt.

Coffee break. Before going back to the office, we decided to go to the adjacent shop to get me a belt. We go shopping, find a few ones I like and go to counter. Luckily, I have enough cash in a 50€ note. I also get sunglasses, when in the last minute...

"Sorry girls, but we are completely out of spare change. Don't you have a smaller note?"

I don't. Neither my friend. That dreaded moment... I have to use my credit card

"Can I see your ID card, please?" (It's mandatory here with a credit card).

I start sweating incontrolably. Imagine her face when she sees my old ID with a beard, oxford shirt... First her eyes were wide open, later she was smiling at us.

I don't know whether to feel happy or crawl into a hole. That for one time I was passing and my ID gave me away  in the least expected situation....

Congrats on going out honey.

And don't a damn about the credit card stuff!

It doesn't matter.

There isn't a one of us who doesn't have the the Oh F* moment when we start off!!

Hugs

It's awesome you have friends who will give you advice on fashion...and go shopping with you! OMG I'd kill for that! (figuratively speaking of course...I'm running out of places to hide the bodies ;) LOL)

Can you get a new pic for the ID?
...I think for most of us it is a futile effort to try and put this genie back in the bottle once she has tasted freedom...

Nope. Supposedly, when I get started on HRT officially I'll get a new temporary ID card (official with gender and name change after a year on HRT and satisfactory RLE). I have thought about losing the card on purpose, but I don't think I can put a wig for the photo. I'd need to wait until I have real decent hair.

Today people keep telling me that I am almost impossible to recognise with such a change, and that's incredible how far I have gone. So far, my female days at work consisted of different kings of trousers and jeans with converse chuck taylors or ankle boots. The dress and shoes are totally making a difference today.

for what its worth you could try to argue that since you've changed so much visually in your photo ID it has made identification much much harder....maybe they will let you retake it. I know here in the states when they re-issue a lost card they just use the picture on file, so if that came to be i would be out of luck. Id venture that even a current picture (with your hair a little less than you like it) would be much preferable than what you describe your previous picture, and maybe help to ease that feeling when you have to use your ID.

Also, as someone who worked in customer service forever, never ever use big bills. Retail and restaraunts hate big bills like $100s, since its always a gamble that its fake or worse, it clears out ALL of your change. I cant even tell you the amount of times that within 10 minutes of opening some joker wants to order a $3 item with a $100 and i would turn them away since i only start the day with $50 in change. stick to 20s or smaller, it may fatten your wallet, but you will never have that issue again

ATM was not giving me smaller ones, and I needed to break that note into something smaller... In the end I could not change it until I did grocery shopping at the end of the day.

Overall, it was a pretty wonderful day. The only negative point was the weather. at 28 celsius in the morning, I swore everything I knew to put on the makeup (wet brush, aghhhh) with all the sweating, and after arriving home the dress went straight to the washing machine. I even had to clean the breastforms.

People get more and more impressed at my progressive changes at work, and the biggest deal is that most of it is pure work. I don't have a female face or any HRT effects (just lumps on my chest), but it's incredible what proper clothing make up and careful walking can do.
The worst part, as usual, is going back to male. Today and tomorrow I had a lot physical work, which I can't do while on a wig, or tucking. I need to lift weight, and sweating kills pretty much everything. Yet I am thinking of changing back to female in the moment my shift is over and meeting with my friends.

just 28? its over 40 here in central california, so merely going outside is a chore, much less attempting to look good in any way
