I just added another person to the list of people I'm out to: my lawyer. Now to make matters interesting, add years of friendship and being in little league and interscholastic quiz bowl together. With great trepidation, I explained that I might be needing his services to change my legal name, etc.

He literally laughed in my face... until he could see the gravitas of the situation and that I was not indeed pranking him...

On the plus side, I just got a lot of pro-bono research and legal help, not to mention the fact that he stated his intention to remain my friend - no matter what.

On the negative side, I can't help but feel that I've made my life into a joke for everyone... Just feeling weird. 

Nope you have not made your life into a joke!!!!

You have just found acceptance and they (he) are dealing with the shock.

He accepted you are you and is know going through the Oh my goddess she is just a normal person, my friend and colleague stuff; and I didn't know!!

Expect questions about how you coped and why now etc.

Just be truthful.

Thank you Cindy! A comforting word goes a long way.

As to being candid, I'm learning a lot about the innate curiosity of people. There are so many questions, some rather personal too,  that have been asked repeatedly. Sometimes I think I should just make a flyer!

But seriously, each conversation while slightly different offers a chance to reinforce old friendships. I'm very grateful I have yet to lose any of my good friends. The fact they stand by me speaks to the goodness in their character and how fortunate I truly am.

I've had these same questions - except in my case it was 'How do you make love to your girlfriend?'  That induced an incredulous look from both Alison and I..

And, oh goddess, does a broad mind and a healthy attitude come in handy at those times..

I hope I'm fortunate enough that my wife is that broad minded but that is a bridge we have yet to pass. The fact that we still look at cribs and talk about the children we plan to have is very encouraging to me that we still have a future.

Most of my questions are related to, "How can you feel like a woman? Are you attracted to men?  Do you still enjoy sex with your wife? Why become a woman when you are attracted to women?!"

The fact these are pre-hrt and these aren't the explicit questions makes me wonder what the questions will be like down the line!

I've found that there are 2 ways to deal with such questions.. You can give them the 'Why on earth would you ask that?' look, or give them the kind of answer that prevents further quetions - in this instance TMI is the key..

As for the 'Why become a woman when you are attracted to women?' question - I usually give a cheeky answer about how much fun it is being a lesbian.. You know, pillow fights and other equally facetious things..

I have to admit. On behalf of the ignorant and less informed people out there those are questions I would ask. I mean I'm still not sure how I would well you know with another woman if I wanted to. But like I said. Lots of people are ignorant and or stupid. Figured I would speak up on behalf of my people's
