Why is that we as women are afraid to do what we set out to do? In other words, get out of our ruts and live as women?

I hear and see this all of the time, that one person complains about
not being taken seriously as a woman, the other group complains they
can't find a job, another group has a bad HRT day, another group wants
to dump on other trans women because they are having a real bad day.

Has it ever occurred to anyone in this group, that maybe they need to find something to do? LIke if you're all winning about working and being out in the world as that new gender, then maybe you should look at some ideas, like.

a. How about volunteering for a Non-profit organization in that new
gender of yours. Heaven knows, many could use the help.

b. If you're concerned about working, how about working for a Temp
agency, e.g. Manpower or Kelly Services?

c. Going back to college or to a vocational school if you can afford
it to learn a new job.

d. Working for your local Rape Crisis Center as a volunteer hot line
volunteer for sexual assault survivors. Plus, no one is going to see
you on the other end of the telephone, all you are to them is a source
of information and a voice.

Folks, it can be done. You just have to go out and do it.

Yes, it is hard to be seen in public for anything, but you know once
you step out of that house/closet in that new gender, you're already a
marked peprson. If you're not willing to go out, you may as well
build a moat around your home and stay inside.

Life is too short.

Yep, totally agree with the voluntary stuff. Its great for the community and also a great way to meet people with like minded intrests

I do environmental work as a volunteer and have been working to preserve the habitats of Arabian Hedge Hogs (dont ask why?)

I also coach and umpire Little League, working with Children ages 10-13, which takes up a great deal of my time during the weekends.

I have also been going to night school, learning to make Jewellery, which has been great fun and again a wonderful way of making new friends.

So yep, I agree, go out, help and have fun!

I agree, it's good to get out there and do something.

I'm always out doing something. I have to be, if I don't have a social life I feel crappy. It's a good thing, because not only does it give me something to do, it builds a network of friends and support.

You are so right Gina. There are probably too many of us, me included, who sit at our PCs worrying about ourselves instead of getting a life and helping others.

I am really so glad that y'all agree with me. Today I've started looking for jobs outside of the box and things that I can do to better my self esteem and help the community. A few months ago, I was talking with a transsexual that has been in 5 years of transition, and she does look very passable, but she told me that the hardest thing for her to do is to find a job without her employer looking strangely at her.  I guess at times, there is that little something that will give us away.

I love to volunteer.  I visit the local SPCA and arts council occassionally to do work for them. They both have problems with computers from time to time.  I also love building things for them. The SPCA has a flea market on site to help raise funds and they always need something.  I also participate in a couple of community orchestras which provide wonderful music to our area.

It doesn't matter what the volunteer work is.  I've done so many things and it such a wonderful way to get out to socialize.  Remember that people will get to know you for who you are and not what you look like at these sorts of activities.  They see your work.

I live in a small town that is more than 75% republican. Meaning more than 75% closed minded and hurtful. We all can't just be because others won't allow it without the possibility of violence and maybe even death occurring.

It must be really hard to live in a place where you always have to worry about what others may think or say. Rise above them, I always say and be strong! You have my sympathy though.
