If you follow my blog, you'll know that I recently started testosterone. So far, it has been three days since my shot. Ever since last night, I've been noticing that things taste and smell a lot stronger. Everything I eat seems to taste either too salty or too sweet and I have no appetite whatsoever. My cat barfed in the other room earlier today and I could smell it like it was right next to me. Has anyone else had this experience? I haven't been able to find anything about this on google.

Quite the opposite except that I smell of BO much quicker and stronger than I used to.

That's interesting and I hope you keep us updated on if that changes or not. I didn't have that experience myself. I just noticed the normal changes in sweat and downstairs smells.

Haven't noticed this personally - but T affects people in different ways, so I don't really know.

Yeah a bit. I used to order this ice tea all the time. I'd go buy it because I liked it so much. I still like it, just not out of my way to buy it. The ice tea I make is very cheap to make so I don't feel like spending Starbucks type prices. BTW, the tea is supposedly mango, but it had a sort of watermelon taste (before). I think my nose is a bit less acute, but nothing dramatic.

It took me quite a while to notice my sense of smell leaving, but it's a lot weaker now. I slept over at my brother's and I had been gone all day. I call him and he says he sprayed the room I slept in with Febreeze. He said he complained to all his female friends that I "made the room smell like icky boy." Lolol. He won't describe to me if it's BO or cologne or what, but I can't smell it.

I think I noticed a difference early on with the smells of some foods cooking, like bacon for instance. But I don't notice it now or know if it was indeed the T. Pregnant women are also said to experience differences in food smells and tastes, so it could simply be that any changes in hormones can cause it.

I started Estradiol 12 days ago and around day 9 I notices a change in smell I could smell thing a lot stronger and my taste changed to I could taste more flavour in food  and some thing now that liked before don't taste so good

Years ago I had a tiny gas leak. The gas company came out and checked it and initially thought maybe I didn't. The guy was very thorough though and eventually found one. He said that he always believed women (sic) because "they can smell it and I can't". It's a chemical added to gas as natural gas is odorless. Anyway I think it is a function of hormones. The ice tea that I talked about must have a very mild smell difference as I don't notice changes in this.

This makes me think of something that happened yesterday afternoon. I bought some peach-nectarine green iced tea bags and had made a pitcher full of it. Used to be I didn't care for any fruity drinks because they were just too strong tasting. I actually like this stuff. I poured a glass last night, put a little Stevia in it, and my gf took a sip. She said, "Ack, you can have it. The smell and taste is strong". To me it's not...so maybe there is something to all of this, interesting.

Er, I don't have a hormone deficiency and I said that my sense of taste and smell INCREASED.

before t i couldnt handle hot foods - like wasabi and strong chilli and curry type things - now wasabi is virtually its own food group for me :3

Try Sriracha if you haven't.

I've always had a keen sense of smell, and it was often a liability. I was actually hoping that it would be blunted by T. In my experience, women have better sniffers than men, so I figured it was a function of T. But my nose is at least as sensitive as before, and it drives me nuts, especially when I'm around other people.

You do not smell of BO or cologne. Its just... your scent. Everyone has their own. Although I found it very interesting that, even after being in a swimming pool for a good hour and a half that I still smelled like my perfume. Your expression was priceless when you exclaimed " How is that possible?!" Btw. You also pointed out that I smell like a girl when you were sat close to me. So its not just you.

Anosmia is often a kind of serious condition. What we are talking about is more normal sorts of increases and decreases with hormones.

Great, now I'm terrified for the future ;_;. I'm on a culinary career track, and a chef can't function without a sense of taste or smell. Right now, mine is pretty sensitive, but I would still benefit from it becoming even more. If it went in the other direction though, I'm screwed. I guess I'm gonna be on constant lookout when my time to start T comes @_@.

I had estrogen birth control pills for years (long story), and I can tell you they changed my sense of taste and smell a lot.  It didn't mean I got more or less sensitive to smells or tastes, but my perception of them changed.  Beer tasted really foul and I liked sugary flavors more.  I always used to like beer, and since coming off the pills I've been able to rediscover my love of beer.   It's awesome!

I don't think you need to worry about it. You will still have taste and smell. As I wrote losing them is serious and I don't think ever casued by T. Your tastes might CHANGE. But since a lot of chefs are male (more than female, but I would gather that is not a function of cooking ability) you should be just fine. Your tastes should become more refined with training and knowledge. For instance, chefs learn to taste for certain things, but I am guessing they LEARN this.
