Warning: violence. They're vikings. Also, SPOILER.

Anyone else watch this and is excited, but waiting patiently for season 2? It looks like my favourite character might die though.

Yes, been watching it since it started! They were a brutal lot, I relate ethnically and mentally. My other hat has horns.

Of course i watch it as well  :P I had no idea a trailer was up for the second season. I am disappointed with the trailer as they seem to have spoiled a major characters death :/ He is my favourite character too  :(

Have you heard of Hammer of the Gods?

He should have ducked!  :icon_peace:

It does look like a spoiler. I'm hoping either the trailer will turn out to not be accurate or Floki will escape somehow.

I have heard of Hammer of the Gods, but haven't watched it yet.

It looks like he definitely got stabbed but was whacked with some sort of stick. He could survive  :-\. I am not fussed if he dies as i think shows should kill characters off more often. It was a shock when the Earl was killed. I am just disappointed the trailer has spoiled a big scene, even if Floki doesn't die.

I have yet to watch it as well but the trailer makes it look interesting.

I put a spoiler warning. Sorry it's late. I'm curious as to how he gets out of it. Plus, how will Ragnar and his group react? I mean, Rollo used to be one of them.

Loki has magical powers, I suspect he'll make it. Meanwhile I've always suspected that Rollo would pull something on Ragnar. It was always evident that he was Jealous and full of envy over Ragnar's successes. Another one I watch is "Suits" on USA network.

While it would be interesting if Loki saved Floki or if Floki turned out to be Loki, I doubt that's going to happen. Any supernatural elements have so far have been ambiguous. As for Rollo, we all know he'll later become a HUGE deal to history.

Eurgh, Vikings. And to think that they have a great deal to do with English heritage.
Farewell to my friends, farewell to the life I knew. I burn what once was, and in the ashes I am born anew.

I'm not up on Viking history, other than the more recent where the Icelanders economy tanked and their currency was devalued. They decided to get out of International banking and return to fishing and were seen dynamiting their expensive cars and trucks rather than let the Repo man get them. That behavior seemed to be in such historic Viking form!  ;D  :D

Oh! It's pretty fascinating. Rollo was the first founder and ruler of Normandy. The English royal family since (and including) William the conquerer are his descendants. Ragnar is a legendary Norse hero although it's uncertain how much of the stories about him are real (I think). His sons are also famous.

Very interesting, didn't you say at one time that you are a teacher? What is it world history?

No, I'm a student. I'm going to be a mad scientist. I just like history.

Thanks, I have CRS but you jogged my memory!

I looked into the history late last night. To my surprise, Ragnar and Rollo are not even brothers. I wonder if they figure that out  :P Or maybe Ragnar says, 'You are no longer my brother'. >.<

I was going to mentioned originally how this show is kind of a substitute for Spartacus  ;D
  •

Edge

I haven't seen Spartacus yet. Is it any good?
Yeah, they're not. They're taking artistic liberties.

Spartacus is fantastic. I like it better than Vikings, that's for sure. I cried when i heard Any Whitfield (formerly played Spartacus) had passed away  :(

I'm excited. Season 2 starts soon.

Symbolism galore!

The Vikings were fearsome until they were converted to Christianity... LOL

As far as the genetic origins of the Brits, well, look at the link below...

Quote
QuoteNow Stephen Oppenheimer's groundbreaking genetic research has revealed that the 'Anglo-Saxon invasion' contributed only a tiny fraction to the English gene pool. In fact, three quarters of English people can trace an unbroken line of genetic descent through their parental genes from settlers arriving long before the introduction of farming.

Synthesizing the genetic evidence with linguistics, archaeology and the historical record, Oppenheimer shows how long-term Scandinavian trade and immigration contributed the remaining quarter – mostly before the arrival of the Anglo-Saxons. These migrations may have introduced the earliest forms of English.

And what of the Celts we know – the Irish, Scots and Welsh? Scholars have traditionally placed their origins in Iron Age Central Europe, but Oppenheimer's new data clearly show that the Welsh, Irish and other Atlanticfringe peoples derive from Ice Age refuges in the Basque country and Spain. They came by an Atlantic coastal route many thousands of years ago, though the Celtic languages we know of today were brought in by later migrations, following the same route, during Neolithic times

BTW the "Anglo-Saxons" hordes did include the Frisian, and indeed a high percentage of people of "Anglo-Saxon" origin are indeed Frisian (U106 haplogroup)
