I am thinking of putting together a short video of cg animated diagrams explaining what transgender is.
The idea is that people can use it when coming out by sending a youtube link or having it on a mobile device.
It would show in a non-threatening, simplified way the science behind what is currently thought to cause this state, the effects it has on us, what it feels like and why and how we transition.

I was thinking of funding it through kickstarter so we can dedicate a good month making it- with excellent sound, and if we reach the stretch goal employing a well known actor to narrate then uploading to youtube and vimeo for everyone to then access for free.  Perhaps seperate vids for what it is, transition and how to support a trans person you know.

Do you think this is a good idea for a project?  Any thoughts?

it might be cool. Who would do the animation?

That seems like a pretty important detail.

I think it's a good idea. Keep the videos under say, 5 minutes.

If you do the animation, could you show a clip of your work so people can decide if they want to fund it? (Or if you know someone who wants to, show a clip of their work for the same reason)
...I think for most of us it is a futile effort to try and put this genie back in the bottle once she has tasted freedom...

Sounds like a cool idea.
Is your main focus going to be on MtF's, both, or just 'general' transgendered people?

Anyway, keep us posted! :)
I always wanted to make animations, but I never did it, so I have zero experience. Not good, not good. Lol.

Keaira, how did you make that btw? It looks pretty nice. Not yet a fully fledged animation, but better than what I could manage, LOL!
EDIT: Oops, sorry, spelled your name wrong  :-X

I use Lightwave. It's the same program used to do CGI in 300, Battlestar Galactica and Star Trek: Deep Space 9 through to Enterprise. and ALL of that was lightwave. No other program was used except windows movie maker to put them all together. This Saber, which was shown in the video, was actually built with some modifications.

Oh yes, I forgot to mention I wanted to start off with an ftm and mtf cut, focusing specifically on the needs of the person coming out. I want to focus on short, undiluted info for the audience member.  Rather than complicating matters by being totally inclusive of all variants in one vid.

If a stretch goal is reached I can extend the videos to deal with each of the other forms of gender variation so that the project is totally inclusive and helpful to all.  :)

So the animation would be done by myself-as well as a few choice students from my classes.   I have over a decade experience working on major games, TVC and films.  I would include a sample in the kickstarter so everyone can get a firmidea of what they are backing. .. but thats a step ahead- first I just wanted to test the water and see if it's something people would love to see and if there are any concerns.

Cute lightsaber!  Mines red.  Coz I iz eebil.  Maybe I should get a purple on now!

Purple is nice but to get a really nice shade of it you lose brightness. My other saber has a cyan blade.

Anyway, I hope this project goes well for you. Good luck. ^_^
