So does anyone.have any advice on where to buy a good wig? I already know the length and cut that i want, but just don't know where to buy one. Plus im gonna be shaving my head soon for a friend with cancer and a wig will come in handy for the next year until my hair grows out again.

Proper sizing will make a difference, there is information here on measuring yourself for a proper fit. There are also links to some wig shops, they all have measuring instructions.  My hair in the avatar came from Paula Young (linked), she is a really nice person who works with her customers.

I went to a local wig shop for my first one so I could be sure of a good fit.  The last two have been online since I was able to get the same size/brand I just had to worry about the style.

In my case we called ahead and the owner of the shop arranged for us to come in at closing time so we'd have the shop to ourselves.  Now it probably wouldn't matter as much to me but at the time it made me a lot more comfortable.

Through e-Bay I found this Chinese guy who sorts out my wigs and is great in terms of price, he never charges for postage and always manages to get the wig to me within four days.

Let me get this right. You are cutting off your hair to make a wig for someone else and you intend to buy yourself a wig as a replacement? Am I missing something here? Why don't you just buy your friend a good wig and keep you own hair?

If I were thinking of donating hair I wouldn't consider doing it unless my hair was well below chin length-- or about what yours is in your avatar pic. For making wigs they generally need rather long hair anyway.

I went to a local wig shop.  She helped me find the right style and color (actually more than one style and color).  I bought a wig from her but then went online and found wigs of similar style of other colors and bought them online.  I have used www.paulayoung.com, www.e-wigs.com, and www.voguewigs.com and ebay.  I'm sure there are other good sites too.

I've also used e-wigs for the two I've purchased online.  The pricing was good and they actually drop shipped from the manufacturer so they came pretty quick.

Well, if that's the case, I guess I can admire the gesture. Personally, though, I wouldn't be any happier for a friend to be bald just because I was. Whatever.

I understand how you feel, but it is usually done as a show of solidarity.  The friend themselves rarely ask for other people to cut their hair.  People do it so their friend doesn't feel alone or like an outcast for having a bald head.  I used to have hair down to my back, but I cut it and donated it to an organization to make wigs for cancer victims.  Even though it wasn't the sole reason for doing it,  I am glad to have donated what I could.  Besides, my hair is already mid length (somewhat long) and looking femme again.   While I doubt I could do it again, I'm glad I did cut my hair once and donated it (the wigs have to come from somewhere).

I think that's awesome that your supporting your friend  Would your friends oncology social worker at the hospital be willing to share some resources? I know that hair loss is a common thing for chemo patients. They might have some info as well. Just be cautious about pricing as vendors tend to jack up the prices for medical stuff often covered be insurance.
