Hello everyone,

I have been posting on this forum for quite some time, and I believe people here have gotten to know a good deal about my character (both the good and the bad).  On that token, I thought I would come to my extended internet family and see what name may suit me.  Believe it or not, I have a really hard time discovering "my" name.  I had a much easier time deciding all the other aspects of my transition so far, but this one puzzles me.  In the past, I was known as Jenny to my close friends, but I don't know if I'm a "Jenny" (nothing against all of our great Jens here :))  For now, I switched to a unisex nickname that I have used since childhood, but it is tied to closely to my "boyname".  Now that I am making more and more progress in my transition, I would like to find my female name.  It just feels right and about time.  That's where the suggestions of my extended internet family come in.  Of course, I can't guarantee that I will use your suggestion, but I want to here what you think fits me as a person, not just what sounds nice.  Sure, this won't be a flawless exercise, since you don't know my appearance or have met me in person; however, I think this will be sufficient.  I don't want to create bias here, so I am not going to list the names I like.  Just spout out what you think fits me as a person (besides Lady Chatterley, lol).

So, who do you think I am?

P.S.  I am getting opinions in real life too.

It's hard to think of a name that fits someone you haven't met in person but I think Carol Anne might fit you. Carol means heavenly woman, and Anne means grace, mercy. And I think that both names fit you.

I wish you good luck in searching for your name. I am sure what ever you comeup with will fit you perfectly.

I liked the name Ree Ann . I was heading that way but at the time i was trying to settle on a name there was hurricane Isabel that hit around where i lived. In doing so i could relate to how i was feeling inside to that of the hurricane. A name was born

(Isabell Anna)

Of course.  I just want to see if there is an overall consensus that jumps out.  Personally, I'm leaning towards Molly, but I don't know.  There are so many names that I love and want to make sure I choose something that says "me".  My sister has been pushing for Madison, but I don't think that says me; however, I will probably choose something with M.... or any other alphabetical letter, lol.

How about Melody? That has a nice ring to it  :)

LTL, thinking of a name for you, I look at your avatar.  I've always liked that as a cool avatar, but who knows how much it really looks like you?  I know you've been slow to post real pics of yourself, as have I, but a few of those might help us to know you just that much better in suggesting names.

Yeah, I'm sort of embarrassed about my appearance.  I'm not bad and in the process of getting there,  but I'm not there yet either.  I want people to see me for the amazing gorgeous young girl that I am (lol, I'm joking) and not what is currently on the outside.  So I'm still hesitant to share for that reason.  Also, I get afraid of being outed forever if I post my pics on the internet.  It's not about you guys, but about who is lurking.  I'm sort of a privacy nut.  I even refuse to use facebook, lol.

It's a nice name, but reminds me of others.

I do like Isabelle and Giselle.  They are both cute and exotic sounding.  But are they me?  I'm not sure.  Damn my indecision.

That is something that 2 of my friends would say. It's so close to their type of jokes that I actually smiled when I read it. The scariest part? Both of their names are Jenny so I'd say Jenny.

Hah, that was the name I used to go by a few years ago! :D.  I probably used it for two or so years with my close friends.  I was just never sure if it said me and my sister doesn't think it's the right fit for me.  I'm not sure.  Besides, we have so many Jens here, I need to be special.  :)  But I will keep it in the running and see what continues to come up.

It's cute, but I am not sure it's me.  I think that's a bit too different.  I know... I'm a big pain,lol.

I think you're a wonderful person. As for a name? How about Marion? Or perhaps Eleanor?

I'm hearing "S" sounds.  Sarah or Samantha perhaps?

I love S names too.  I sort of deviate from M,S, and J names.  There are many others too, but this is the common trend.

Thank you.   :)

Those are both nice names, but I feel they are better suited for an older women.  I just don't see many young girls in their 20s with those names.  Though, I do love Eleanor.  It reminds me of Eleanor Rigby (though I don't want to that person, lol).

yeah go with a name that is common in your age group. Molly is fine. I'd go with Molly. I'd stick with something the same letter as your first name. I'm lucky I'm just going to use the name that everyone calls me in the first place. Which is a feminized version of my male name.

The only advice I can really offer is to pay attention to your dreams, and see if there's any name which keeps reoccurring. The ones which fit you are often the ones you keep seeing over and over in your mind's eye.

Although... your screen name is Learningtolive... how about shortening it to "Olive"? ;D ;D

I don't have any specific suggestions, but my best piece of advice is to take something relatively ordinary. Trans or not, people with strange names (however beautiful) are likely to be looked at weird. Now add being trans and that's a rather unwanted factor. You don't need to take the one name that was the most popular in your high school or anything, but try to get something within a reasonable fork of normality among women of your age and demographic profile.

If you're not Russian, don't take a Russian name. And for the love of lovable things, don't 1) invent or dig up a name that you've barely if ever heard or 2) spell a name very originally. These are such huge stereotypes about trans people that if you have an extreme case, some people might instantly wonder if you're a drag queen or what, with that kind of name. And even if not, someone who has doubts about your genetic gender might start thinking about your name or vice versa.

Of course, in the end even naming yourself Khatterynne (from Catherine) or Antolianna (just invented this one) can be without major consequences. But if I were you, I'd still try to put all the chances on my side.
