I've finally discovered and read the TOS for this site and now feel okay about posting an introduction.
I was nervous about posting at all because I'm a gay cis male.  I wasn't completely sure I should be
here at all.  Also, I was concerned about offending someone out of ignorance.  It seems like transfolk
are constantly facing an uphill battle trying to educate the general populace about various common
misconceptions and so forth so I understand the frustration.  I'm very open and out and tend to not
be very secretive.  It's just what's natural to me.  I wear my heart on my sleeve.  If I do step out of
line here, all I ask is to receive a polite correction.  I assure you that's all it will take.  The TOS seemed
very sensible to me and I intend to respect it and all the people here.

It's probably a "duh" by the fact that I am here, but I very much want to live in a world that embraces
all different kinds of people, their natures, their choices, and I feel like GLB has come a long way in
recent years and T is like the next frontier of educating people and empathy.  I am disturbed by how
some in the GLB community seem to feel like they got what they wanted so eff the Ts, so to speak.
I've watched a lot (A LOT) of YouTube vlogs by FtMs lately and feel like it has been an amazingly
eye-opening experience.  What has blown my mind, and in a very good way, is wrapping my head
around the broadness of the spectrum of personalities, choices, etc.  I've had preconceptions and
stereotypes get exploded left and right.

Wow, I'm struggling with what more to put here about myself.  I won't blather on (further!).  I should leave
something to talk about later.  I live in NH and love it here.  I'm engaged in a number of creative projects
like radio, film, writing (right now-- screenplays, short films, a novel, and hopefully more in time).

There, did it.  Whew!

P.S. I appear to be experiencing some bug with my word-wrapping on this forum and others like it that
causes my text to go right off the screen so I'm having to insert some arbitrary line breaks.  Sorry!

Hi Dalebert, :icon_wave:

Welcome to our little family. Over 7200 strong. That would be one heck of a family reunion.

Feel free to post your successes/failures, Hopes/dreams.  Ask questions and seek answers. Give and receive advice.

But remember we are family here, your family now. And it is always nice to have another sister/brother/Andro/member. :icon_hug:

Hugs and Love,
Janet

Hi Dale! New Hampshire resident here too; welcome to Susan's. Don't be worried about being accepted here, we are very open to anyone who is supportive and caring and comes here for the right reasons. You're right, many in the GLB question our inclusion, but some outright decry the legitimacy of our  existence entirely. Coming to terms with being trans, and then going forward with transition isn't the easiest thing to do, but all in all it beats the heck out of going on living a life feeling like a stranger to myself. Once I understood, and knew, there was no question left, I simply had to move forward or spend the rest of my days suffering and hating myself.

Thank you for introducing yourself to us, I hope you stick around. :)

Thank you for introducing yourself to us, I hope you stick around. :)

Thanx for the warm welcome, April!  I think it's fairly likely I will stick around a while.

Hi Dale, welcome to Susans! I'm from the Boston area. Thanks for sharing with us, each person comes here for a different reason. Hugs, Tracey

Hi Dale.  Welcome to Susans, it's cool to see someone from the gay community wanting to understand and communicate with the transgender community more.   Oh, and the wordwrap thing is happening to me too, although that's a new development, so it's probably either because I updated Google Chrome, or the forum software changed.

Hi Dale, welcome - and if you clear your browser cache, you should get back the normal text entry boxes (with word wrapping) - due to a forum software upgrade, but it's fixed now.

Hi Dale

Welcome here, nice to meet you.
I love to see people here who are not TG, because they can sometimes see the things from a different angle.

I can understand why you like it in NH, I was there last summer for holiday, in Conway, nice. place.
I'm looking forward to your future posts.

Hugs

Interesting.  I'm on Firefox so it goes across browsers.

I followed Padma's advice to clear the cache and it seems to have cleared up the problem.  Thx!

Not so sound dumb.... but what cache do I delete? Is that covered in a "Disk Cleanup" with temp files and other stored info? I'm running Windows 7 on an HP Pavilion, if that makes any difference.

I got a message from someone asking why I had not posted an introduction yet so I thought I would risk bumping this older thread.

Here's a quick narcissistic update.

Still living in Manchester, NH. Still loosely involved with the Free State Project, which is what got me here.

I haven't much plugged my show, reason being that it's in theory a commercial venture. However, it hasn't really made money so it's really turning out to be more of a hobby. Podcasting is a very competitive endeavor. Anyway, it's called Flaming Freedom. WARNING: Content is sometimes very adult and the site might also be considered NSFW just due to occasional YouTube thumbnails and such. It started out being a talk show about LGBT issues from a libertarian (small-L) perspective. It's kind of broadened out now to where we talk about many subjects though still with a mostly LGBT focus. Essentially it's become more entertainmenty than newsy/political-oriented. We kind of felt like there are plenty of people giving their opinions of the latest LGBT news events and lightened up a bit. We are about to attempt a hopefully decent implementation of a live video feed of the show and we will then be able to again have people call in and share their thoughts if they want. We used to be part of a network but we left it do to scheduling issues so we haven't been live for a few months. It's currently pre-recorded and download-only.

I'm still working on my novel. *sigh* It's been slow-going, but I'm very active in my writer's group and grinding away at it. It's modern fantasy that involves shape-shifters and forbidden love. Though it doesn't have trans characters per se, I think there are elements of it that trans folk will be able to relate to. For instance, one of the characters only recently discovered he's a shifter and some of the side effects on his body are causing him to experience a fair amount of dysphoria. I have some ideas for stories I'd like to write that feature trans characters prominently. I don't know yet whether they will be novels or (albeit long) short stories.

Re-welcome to Susan's since way before I joined. ;)

As requested, here's a link to a chapter from the novel... sort of. This was intended to be the first chapter but I've since revamped the outline and it no longer fits with the timeline. Now it's more like fan-fiction of my own work if that makes any sense. Victor is one of the main characters but he will be an adult at the beginning of the story as I have it now. At most, we might get a tiny bit of this in back-story. But it's true to his character.

BTW, this is NOT the character who experiences dysphoria. That would be the protagonist. Victor is a (the?) primary supporting character.

Looks like we're both from Manchester, so that's pretty cool.  ;D

I used to hang out with the Free Staters a few years back (I used to go to Murphy's Taproom every Tuesday back between June-August 2010, because who can pass up on the $2 Guinnesses), but I've since lost touch with all of the guys I used to hang out with since transitioning.

I'll have to check out your podcast next time I get a chance, and I'm bookmarking the chapter to your novel that I can check out when I'm a little less scattered.

I do do most of my posting in that thread. Not sure what that says about me. :)
