I understand how you feel. I was a victim of ID theft and it sucks. When I was 18, someone stole my social and used it to open up multiple bank accounts in states I've never even visited. I don't know how this person got my information, but I'm assuming it was either through my school or the hospital I had a surgery in. Both of those places had socials leaked before, and I bet I was one of the "lucky" ones. The only good thing about the whole ordeal is that the thief never used my name. I don't know how you can use someone else's social without a matching name, but this guy was a pro as he travelled all over the country. However, since it was obvious fraud, the banks have been fairly accommodating to me. I finally was able to open my first checking account after having multiple problems opening one because of the jerk. Oddly enough, it never caused any issues with my credit, passport, security clearance, travelling, employment or anything else. It just prevented me from opening a bank account.
As you can see, I totally understand what's it's like to be a victim of fraud and it sucks. You feel helpless and the justice process is almost non existent. Still, there are always ways to survive and you shouldn't punish yourself for being a victim. You'll be able to move past this and excel in your future. Don't let the criminal take away even more from you then he already did. You're too good to allow a petty thief to take hold of your life. It will be okay, just give it some time.
