First, what do you use to curl straight hair.  I'm looking for different ways to get a quick curl into the long, straight, and thin hair I have now.  Need something simple, and non-damaging to use in the morning, or that can be worn overnight.  I'm using curlers now, but yesterday started to consider a home perm kit to save money.   Can't afford a stylist right now.

Have had a Finasteride prescription since mid May, and it's helped to get the vellus hair to grow into something more like my natural terminal hair.  This filled in the bald center of my scalp, and it almost gave me a forehead again (kinda)  :(.   But I'm still shedding a lot and hate to look at the brush after running it through my hair.   So I'd like to know what you've experienced, and how long before finasteride results max out.  Hate wigs, and getting tired of having to wear hats and scarves.

Your subject line threw me off in completely the wrong direction.

"Curlers? Finasteride?" should be the motto for the Saskatchewan MtF community.

Maddy, with apologies.

Hilarious curlers there.

Seriously though, a perm will do major damage to your hair, especially when it is still very fine.  Instead use foam curlers that you can sleep in and dampen your hair a bit.

Oddly, round hair shafts are straight and flat hair shafts curl.  Perms eat holes in your hair to make it curl.

If your hair isn't very thick and you're trying to make the most of it, you might want to go easy on the gadgets. The more you mess with hair the more damage you do to it. I would aim for a nice straighter style for now if I were you-- possibly only curling it for special occasions.

Curling irons are more commonly used these days than curlers, but if you have fine hair, you need to to careful to avoid damage. If you're expecting new growth you might want to keep your hair in a shorter style for awhile until some new stuff kicks in, and then grow it longer.

I know when you're getting into the girly thing there is a tendency to want to pretty up a lot, but with hair the best way to hold onto as much as possible is to do as little as possible to it.

I'll forget perms for now, and thanks for the warning.  Use foam curlers now and get mixed results in the AM so is it ok to use the smaller diameter rollers on fine hair?

I've had to curl the last two days.  Yesterday for a lunch and today for the County Fair.  Usually I just wear it down or put it in a pony.  But I'm one of those ladies who likes long hair because at my age I need every visual trick to look better.  I'll probably keep the long hair until next spring, but when I have more money in November I might see a stylist back in California.

I steer away from heat as much as possible.  Even try and avoid hair dryers except when there's something rushing me.  It's so much nicer to let it dry and brush later.  And I get less hair stuck in the brush when I wait for it to dry.

This must be the first time I've heard of someone wanting to CURL their hair. o.o Is it "in" again after so many decades? Anyhow, I think the simplest option is a curling iron. Just use a protective spray for the heat and your hair will be fine unless it's super mega fragile. Putting things in your damp hair at night... Well maybe it can do for you, but to me it sounds like the best way to have my scalp act up on me with disgusting crusts and pimples, not to mention a huge pain in the butt.
