I am having a hard time picking a new name.

I would love everyones input.  My first choices are both taken- amazingly- by my adorable new second cousin!  My cousin is freakishly psychic.  Darn it.

I have Dana as current choice, but its not exciting me. I loved Cassandra and Lillian but my friends say they just don't suit me.  Though defiant I wanted to explore other choices.  I also like Bailey, Jessica and Bethany - but these already seem very popular among tgirls, so I put them aside for now.  I adored Dannika- but it would get shortened to a mannish  dan.

So I was thinking of going with the name Delaney King or Delanie (more femme).
I like that is has the same initials as my birth name,  but sounds different.  Its uncommon as a first name, unisex- but evolving more into a girls name of late.

It means 'dark challenger' in irish.  I am pretty dark and everyone says I am challenging .

Best of all the nick names are Dee, Lanes, Lanie, Della, Laineybug and dee-la - which all sound pretty rockabilly and femme.

"The oscar for best director goes to Delanie King" sound pretty good too.

So anyone spot a problem with it- love it, hate it... I would love to hear your thoughts.  No pulling punches... I gotta live with it.

I know a Della but she's up there in age ... late 50's. So I don't know if your considering names more common for around when you were born or not.

Dee- la would be my MOTU nickname.  I am such a geekette.

Delanei Anais Zia King.   Spells DAZ- the nickname my family gave me after my little neice could not pronouce my name.  Zia means aunt in italian and was the girl in 'cities of gold'- which is cute.

I dont mind an unusual name- or even a weird one.  I am, after all, a transsexual lesbian digital artist and game designer.  Weird is pretty fitting.

How about Dominique or Dagny? FYI - these were the names of women in two of Ayn Rand's novels. Very substantial characters.

I'm having a bit of a similar problem. I had picked my name (Chelsea), but no one seems to like it. My wife, mom, and some other people that know say they don't like it. IDK if I should reconsider it or not.

Well Chelsea I think you have come to that all important 'me' moment because you have all the power bwa ha ha.  It will grow on them.  But having them like your name feels like another forum of acceptance doesnt it?

Thanks for other suggestions. .. Dagny is a cool name but would get shortened to dags and daggy, which is not a name you want in Australia as it is slang for poo on a sheeps bum.
