So it's been a long time between between me coming out and starting the 'process.'

In reality I came out to my cousin June 2012. At the time I was also seeing a psychiatrist regarding a second bout of depression, who I also came out to. This made things so much easier for me initially and also helped with my depression quite significantly. However the depression was mainly related to other things which I won't go into on here.

The harder part was coming out to my parents February this year. Fortunately my psychiatrist helped me with this, I was lucky. Both my parents didn't overreact or anything but six months later it seems a bit like they weren't taking me seriously. We are not a family that opens up much, which is fine for us, it works. It's just how we all are.

But one thing that coming out has helped me in the short-term is being able to watch any TV programme that I like. I'm not embarrassed to watch Doctor Who or listen to Katy Perry, Beyoncé etc without my headphones in.

Unfortunately when I told my cousin, who I initially came out to, that I had started the 'process' with my GP (doctor, don't think they're called GPs outside the UK) she said something along the lines of 'are you sure?' etc, however I told her that I wouldn't have to.d her if I wasn't sure I was intending to transition.

It sucks to hear you have depression, but it is nice to hear seeing seeing a psychiatrist has nudged you.

Why do you feel your parents are not taking you seriously?

It's gone now fortunately. Coming out really helped that. The depression also wasn't helped by a former friend at uni but now I've finished I don't see them any,ore which has also helped.

I don't know why they haven't taken me seriously. Maybe because I like football (soccer) a lot. It could also be down to what they researched. They don't see me as very feminine. But as we all know not all girls where dresses all the time etc. I know some girls who have a more stereotypically 'male' traits than I do. Maybe it's their idea that males are one thing and females are another.

Now that the process is in the doctor's hands it may soon be taken more seriously. I hope.
