Hi.  My teenage son told me he's transgender late last year and I'm having a bit of trouble finding pathways or even advice on what we should expect.  We're in northern Australia and not near any of the gender centres I've managed to find online so while I know eventually I'll have to take him interstate I'd really like to have contact with other parents who've been down this road.  I'm 100% supportive of his decision and want to help him but I've got so many questions.  Reading the links to stories and message boards he's sent me it just seems to be more common than people think but there's no step by step guide lol.
We're seeing a GP tomorrow (2nd visit, the first was a bit of a write off and not sure we'll be sticking with him) - is our next step asking for a referral to see a psychologist/psychiatrist?

Hi,

I'm in Adelaide.

Go to www.anzpath.org and there is a listing of treatment people their. give it to your GP as well.

There is a parent help group called Transend that can also help. google for the contact. you may also wish to look at my site which is in my signature.

There appears to be good support for TG children with recent Federal rulings that primary treatment does not require court approval.

Email me if you wish.

Thanks Cindy - that a fab help and he's not given me these ones so he probably hasn't come across them yet. I'll google Transend now and thanks again.
