Again... Do you think I could pass one day? I mean after getting rid of beard shadow and hair on arms... and legs (what you don't see in the picture).

What do you think?

Please don't reply with the image in the quote as I will remove it soon.

Are you trying to be nice? Okay, it will take me some time to believe you. I'm not on hormones yet. But I must admit that I'm wearing some body shaping girls underwear. (It goes up to the waist and holds - you know - my private parts in place.) And I stuffed the bra, I unfortunately don't have anything there yet (which might be due to not taking hormones...)

I tried another picture (a la Michelle G):

I know its hard to take pictures of yourself, I can't seem to do it very well either except to get a face only picture with the front facing camera on my phone.  I'm sorry to say that I really can't tell still.  From what I can see you look feminine enough that most likely you will eventually pass if you put the work in.  HRT will most likely help, it seems like you have a pretty thick neck but that could just be camera angles, HRT should help that.  Your nose isn't overly masculine so that helps. Sorry if I'm not being helpful at all.

But you are! I hope my neck will get smaller when I start to loose weight which I started some weeks ago. I'm a little overweighted... ermmm... a little more overweighted. My BMI is about 30, so I'll have to loose a lot of pounds. It will also be healthier for me, although I'm doing it because I have the impression I might pass better when I'm more slim. I fear for the Adam's apple being more visible afterwards but there's no such thing as a free lunch.

Still it's good the hear that my nose might be okay. My eyebrows are a bit straight unfortunately, but plucking might help here, right?

Thanks a lot. It feels good to be told that. I have to make a call I think. Got declined by my favorite therapist and yet have to call another. I got to get things running again. I owe that to Pia, right?

Pia, I think it would be helpful to take a picture that shows the face - like a regular portrait for a passport. They usually tell you to not have too much hair covering up the face and no glasses and such. It hink that makes it easier to judge or to give hints on what may be a problem. I know - back then I also always took pictures in which I conceiled what I thought would be bad features with hair, but then of course no one can tell you if that feature really is an issue or not.
On the last picture I think the perspective is a bit odd - it looks in it like your hips are rather narrow, but that is because of the shot taken from the top - a full body picture from some distance may be better. Wont work with a phone though maybe as you would need that function to take a picture a few seconds after pressing the button.

Hard to believe that I'm doing this... Please do not quote, as I will be taking the picture down again soon.

Men's shirt, bbcream, touch of makeup (incl. lip gloss). Just over 6 months on full HRT (albeit only 5 with anti-androgens).

(adding a profile pic, no more makeup there...)

From that angle I'd say you pass pretty close to 100%.  I'm not sure how you would look in a profile view and that might change things.

Theo - i think that looks quite well. Its hard to say from that angle but I think you might have a bit of an issue with what I think is called the "bow ridge" (?) - in the center of the temple just above and between the eyes? In the photo there is a reflection that embosses that feature, you might want to play it down a bit with some slight makeup for now and see how it goes. But as the rest is quite feminine that is all right - every face can have a few traits that are uncommon and still fall well within the average patterns of the gender the majority of the features tell.

Couple things you'll want to think about Theo.

The face on picture looks quite feminine, with the possible exception of the thin upper lip.

The profile shows a brow ridge, not seriously male, but enough to throw off the look.  Your hairline might need adjustment.  I don't see much of an adams apple in either picture.  I think you are progressing nicely.

Theo,
You have a really feminine shaped face and jawline. Your eyebrows are very light like mine so when you do use makeup you might want to pencil them in darker. Eventually you may want to see a FFS specialist and talk about feminizing your nose and maybe a hair advance, Osterhout does a hair advance and brow ridge and lift all in one package but aside from that you are becoming a basically darling thing!

Hi,

I'm new to this site and have recently come to terms with the person that I am. I was wondering if some of you incredible people would be able to point out any masculine features that I have and what I could do to draw attention away from them. I am pre-everything. Please excuse the stubble and blemishes on the side image!

Hi Naty and welcome to the site! And I cant see any screaming masculine features in Your face - I was looking hard, but I could not :). Maybe Your sinus is a bit on the thick side, but I could not clearly see that in Your pic. You have a lot of feminine features already and should do more than fine on the HRT :)

Hi,

Your nose!  I want your nose.  *steals nose*

I've got your nose!

I can gender you either way - there's nothing that definitively says "man" or "woman" - and I think you might be able to swing a butch style now, "pre everything."

Hair takes a long time to grow, but I think what you have already looks better than a wig.  Eyebrows... you might play with.  But really, the biggest gender-cue is that t-shirt, and in person maybe your beard shadow though it's not real obvious in the picture.

Dress and talk F and I think I'd see you as such.

You mean that's not the picture of a butch cis-girl?  :o

I don't believe it  ;)

Natalie if anything is masculine it's your eyebrows and that will come in time. I think once you start some hormones you will be making us jealous with your progress. ;)

So, I already posted this video on my blog, but I'm interested in getting some more opinions.

How close am I to passing?

This is not a "could I pass one day" post, it is a definite "do I pass?" post. Because I'm still having a bit of a mental block, where I feel like I'm getting close enough that most people won't notice, but my brain still just insists on telling me that I look weird when I'm out as female, so I'm still mostly just taking the "safe" route and going out as a guy.

Well... what do you all think? Am I passing, or am I still not quite there yet?

Brutal honesty, please. I really want to know how close I'm getting.

Your body and body language are spot on. The voice is awesome frankly. It was a short video but if you are able to hold that image together for long outings then I think you are doing well.

Very close.  I'm watching with a high index-of-suspicion, as if someone told me you're trans and I'm trying to decide if they're pulling my leg or not.

Result: I might suspect after a while.  I probably would believe an outing.  This is an acid-test though, so I'd give it a high passing grade, at least a B.  Go out with friends and be yourself, I think, because you're not going to get better without more confidence.

Weakest point is your voice, but then I'm really intensely critical there.  For example, at "probably worrying about nothing" you hit a D2.  That's not impossibly low for a contralto, but it's way down there and she'd probably recover by bouncing back up to A2 or higher, and that's about as high as you go.  "I just want to do another one" is around B or Bb2.

Your resonance is good, though, and so is the way you voice gets gravelly near the bottom.  I suspect you have many of the right instincts, but you have difficulty accessing the higher pitches.  This is a technique thing; when you do it right, you can hit C5, yes 5, without much difficulty - and that's way above normal speaking pitches.  "Male vocalist mixed voice" should get you some good resources, but you'll have to practice in guy voice.

So, what does this mean?  Rain, page 11 and 12, and the author's comment on 11.  I think you have cues enough to be reliably gendered female, especially in a group.
