When people say "fat redistribution", is that literal? I'm not overweight, but I've got a belly on me. Will HRT move that around, or will the gut stay there while any new fat gets shunted to different locations? Basically, should I start working out more often before going on HRT?

UGGH!  The belly stays!  Some fat will go to the hips and thighs and an additional thickness under the skin, making it smoother and lighter.  There will be some loss of fat in the fingers, making them appear thinner, but not shorter.  I loss some vocational implanted lead in my fingers due to this plus the flushing effect of the Spiro.  The effect is that I got some feeling back in the fingers.  A positive side effect.  You know the drill as well as I: EXERCISE!

I was afraid of that. On a slightly related note: Will this affect my tattoos at all? I've got ink all up and down my arms, including a hand tat, as well as one on my chest. I guess that one will be a tit tat by next year!

Anyways, to the elliptical machine!

Bummer!

I'm very slender but my "natural" six pack in my twenties that I didn't ever have to work for is gone. I just have a slightly round tummy, even though it's still small. Basically in the mornings it's pretty flat but after lunch and fluids it's a little round the rest of the day.

I too was hoping that it would move to my hips, because litterally my hips are completely flat and then my hip bone shows and the bone on the side of my butt. So excited to finally get some girl hips, if that's even possible  ::)

so quick question, even if it's not a gut and it's just a little tiny bit of fat, none of it moves?

Pretty much. The whole thing is that the fat that is moved is in regions that become fem'd so the belly doesnt count. Thats why the fingers, your shouldrs etc change but something like your belly wont, as I say flab is a stubborn old enemy.

Well hopefully since I have just a little tummy I'll just do sit ups everyday and get rid of it quickly :)

Is fat the only thing effected or is muscle also effected, like women have to don't gain the same muscle definition as men. So working on certain areas like hip, butt ect exercise might be beneficial?

I've heard that E can sort of eat your muscles. I'm going to have to start practicing with my swords more often, or I might not be able to lift them!

From what I learned in the Navy, "targeted exercise" doesn't work as well as people seem to think it does. Think about it. When someone loses weight, where is the first place you notice? The face, right? Now, have you ever seen anyone doing face crunches?

Its both E and Progesterone which tend to melt the muscles.
As regards swords - I noticed that my wrist is still quite strong and its mostly tendons which are important for that purpose. But I have to admit, being a big fan of Scottish baskethilt broadswords - they feel heavier than they used to be... I can work it around quite comfortably, but I do feel its weight when I simply lift it.

I work mainly with katanas, which are ridiculously light when compared to European style swords, but I was never very strong to begin with, so I worry.

I understand that is "reduces" your muscles, but I am wondering if it effects what muscles "grow" as well.

Yep once a fat cell is created it never goes away, the body can only make new fat cells in new areas. The only way to get rid of these fat cells which are created when you are very young is by lipo.

I am on a very high dose of E, and I've alternated P dose. My weight has finally stabilized after much yo-yo-ing. It seems that I've definitely had some major redistribution- maybe partly due in part to my weight bouncing around. Even though I am at the same weight now as when I started HRT, it appears that I have lost significant amounts of upper body muscle and it has been replaced with breast tissue and fat around my butt/thighs... and subcutaneous fat everywhere. Measurements have gone from 35/29/34 to 37/27/37. Even when I lost a bunch of weight (fat) recently, my butt seemed to stay! :)

I think it mostly depends on genetics. Look at the women in your family to get an idea ;)

But I do think your fat can kind of keep its same pattern because my mom is a SUPER pear and I don't really store any fat on my hips at all.

You have really great measurements, and I think you are probably right. Also, it usually seems with MtF's that most of the hip measurement is tied up across the butt. No complaints, but it would be nice to have more of a spread to the hips. That could just be the dysphoric part of me talking, though... Yeah, I think it is ;)

For me since I started HRT 22 years ago I have definitely lost weight 60 lbs.  I'm very active so I only lost a small amount of muscle mass. My measurements have really changed to a more feminine body. Now at 173 lbs. measurement's are 47/ 36/ 48. Yes I have lost most of my belly fat.
My profile  photo was taken  10 years ago.
I have been on estrogen and progesterone  for 24 years and sprio off and on but not for about 8 years. I have not totally transitioned yet but since  my breasts are very noticeable  36 I it is pretty much impossible not be seen as female. Just went full time. :) Yes I still do yard work!
