Did you have top surgery with any of these surgeons? Or the pedicle technique?

Hey friends, I could really use some help.

Have you had, or are you planning to have, surgery or a consult with any of the following surgeons?

  • Dr. Brian Eichenberg (CA)
  • Dr. Peter Raphael (TX)
  • Dr. Alan Dulin (TX)
  • Dr. Megan Hassall (AU)
  • Dr. Paul Steinwald (IL)

All of the above surgeons do some version of the pedicle technique.  And almost all of them are pretty difficult to find reviews/photos of online.

If you would be willing to chat with me (here, or via PM or email) about your experience with any of these surgeons, I would be so incredibly grateful.  And if you felt comfortable sharing a photo or two of your chest after surgery?  That would be so helpful I cannot even begin to tell you. I'm especially interested in talking with people who have had surgery with Eichenberg or Raphael, and with people who had the pedicle technique done with any of these surgeons.

I would also love to talk anybody who has had the pedicle technique in general, or who has researched it thoroughly (or is currently researching it!).  I feel pretty sure it's the route that I want to go. Maintaining "erotic" or "differentiated" nipple sensation is very important to me and I'm terrified of nipple grafts.  Things that are typically considered downsides of the procedure (scarring, not 100% flat chest) are things that I feel totally comfortable with.

What's troubling me is that surgeons who do this technique seem to regard it as a wonderful optioning for large-chested folks (like myself) to maintain nipple sensation.  But surgeons who don't do this technique (like Garramone & Fischer) have warned me against it and even gone so far as to say that it does the OPPOSITE of what it's touted to do and actually increases the risk of necrosis/sensation loss.

I don't know who to believe.  I feel that I can't trust these competing surgeons to give me objective information so I'm turning to their patients for help.
What has been your experience?  Are you happy that you had the pedicle technique?  Did you maintain nipple sensation?

I've been researching for months on end and I'm so exhausted and anxious.  I just want to choose a surgeon and a date but I really need more information and more photos.

Also! I have a google docs spreadsheet with quite a bit of info about all of these surgeons.  I was frustrated by not being able to find all of the information in one place, so I started compiling it in one place for myself.  I'd be more than happy to share it with anyone who would find it helpful!

I also made a masterpost on another site about the pedicle technique which I would be happy to share if people are interested.

Thanks for any help xo

I think I know two people who have seen Dr Raphael. I'll see if I can talk to them and have them talk to you (but I have a feeling that a lot of people have seen Dr Raphael).

I'm having surgery in January with Dr. Megan Hassall, but I'm having nipple grafts - I don't care about sensation in my nipples.  Even so, I would be happy to help in any way I can.

A lot of people here in NM go to Dr. Raphael. If you go on youtube there are actually videos and so on. I don't know re: the pedicle technique, I think it would be good if you really value the sensation aspect. I don't know if it is 100% or anything.
