Title says it all really.

Im over 4 years on T, and have never self injected. I started on sustanon, where they had me go to see my nurse every 4 weeks, Ive been on nebido since 8months on T, and always have to travel to get my nurse to inject it. I have been asking for years to self inject, Ive asked both the nurses and the woman I see at the GIC, both say to ask the other. I finally got them to communicate, they said yes. And now Im told that actually, they aren't comfortable letting me do that as its such a big injection, in an area with a main nerve.
Is there anyone out there who does this themselves? Its not a problem at the moment, only a small hassle, but in the future, Im looking to do more longterm work abroad and obviously cant be flying back to England every few months.. :/
So Id just like to know if it actually is possible or not.

Hey, I just got my first shot of Nebido, and asked the nurses to do it for me. They said if I haven't got anyone to do it and I also don't want to, they will. The only thing they said was that you have to do it very slowly. If you want to do it yourself I guess you do it in your legs? I couldn't really help, but I'm curious too.

We're not permitted to self-inject Nebido here in the UK for two reasons: firstly, there's a risk you might hit the sciatic nerve, which you really don't want to do because it can lead to permanent nerve damage and even disability. Secondly, there's a risk of hitting a vein and suffering an oil embolism, so it has to be administered by a qualified medical professional and we're supposed to sit in the waiting room for 5 minutes after the injection to make sure we're safe. Personally, I wouldn't recommend doing it yourself if you don't have medical training, but particularly if you're on your own and don't have resuscitation equipment to hand.

That having been said, it is good to inject it slowly, but also make sure you warm it up to body temperature (or slightly above) first, because this makes it less viscous so it's quicker and less painful to inject. The manufacturer doesn't recommend injecting into the thighs, although my GP's practice does have one guy who takes it that way.

I thaught no matter what you inject into muscle, there's the risk to hit the sciatic nerve. I've heard of the oil embolism, but I didn't need to wait, although the paper of the injection said it. Good to know this, thanks.

Thanks for your replies guys, especially the detail in yours FtmDiaries.

I guess its a no then :/ I may look into going back to Sustanon if possible and learn to self inject that way... I shall see :P

I dont see why you cant get it from a local doctor? every doctor should be able to give you a injection as long as there not transphobic.
or are we speaking about some "somewhere in the middle of nowhere area?"
-
I never injected myself but I know a ftm who inject himself with either testroviron or nebido (I belive its testroviron)
He got diabetis or some other illness where he has to inject himself regulary therefore his doctor have teached him how to self inject himself.

I think if you are interesteed in that try ask if you learn learn the details by a profecional doctor. also if your not going to a "middle of no where country, with no doctors around in your area, you could ask some locals or the local trans group about doctor advice, I have done that while traveling. but in general I have been lucky not to have a problem with the doctors I got, I just told them I need this injection and how often.

In reality, there is little difference to the risks associated between the standard Sustanon/Cypionate/Enanthate and Nebido (in other words, all of them have the potential to cause oil or even air embolis that can in theory lead to pulmonary arrest, heart attack or even stroke depending on where it goes). However, the key difference is the amount given at a time. But that being said, the chances of dying on anything less than a considerably large barrel-full of the shorter acting Sustanon/Cypionate/Enanthate are virtually nill even if injected directly into a vein. But the same would not be true of the Nebido, and again because so much more is given of it at a time. That's absolutely not to say one should then stop aspirating on the shorter acting, lower amount types but it is a truth that its very, extremely unlikely to result in the otherwise theoretically possible consequences and in the standard dosing bracket of them. In fact, I'm sure most of the recoded causes of death due to oil-based T injections for these reasons, are because of the abusers that do a vial or two at a setting (the big ones). That'll certainly do it where a typical dose range wouldn't.

As to the sciatic nerve, its very unlikely to actually hit that whether in the glute (and even much less likely) or the thighs. As long as we stick to that upper and outermost quadrant and don't do any wild, down and side slanting with the needle angle, you're not going to hit it. As for the thighs, the sciatic runs very close to the femur towards the inside of the thighs and not on the outside or the side where you're supposed to be injecting at (along the vastus lateralis). In short, it is absolutely impossible to hit the sciatic in the thigh from IM in that location and which is fairly much the only option for the vast majority going the self-injection route (I sure know I can't twist around to get my glutes myself AND be able to actually see the barrel in the aspirating stage).

Anyway. I don't believe there would be any undo problems arising if one were to alternate between the Nebido and the Sustanon as circumstances permit (and I agree that is the best course of action. It's what I would do). T is T.

I've self injected reandron (nebido for y'all) a few times. I wouldn't recommend it to be honest. I am a trained paramedic, and even I mostly have friends (other paras, doctors or nurses) do it for me because of convenience. The hardest thing when I've done it myself is well I can only do one side because of hand dominance and I only ever inject into the glute (never vast lat) so it is very hard to get into a good position for good control - not impossible with cushions laying down etc but it is an evolution.

I agree, if you get the script and collect the medication you should be able to go to any doctor or nurse (anywhere) and have them inject it. If you don't want to out yourself all you need to say is something like you have hypogonadism and you've been on the injections all your life, which is essentially not a complete fabrication of the truth anyway. Otherwise perhaps a family member or SO is wiling to learn to do it, at least then it's not a trip to the clinic every time you're due a shot... Or the decision to go back to sus is not a horrible reality either - I just prefer 4 shots a year over 10+ :) Good luck mate!

Thanks everyone for your replies. :) Its good to hear from you all who know more of the ins and outs of this.

Like you Aussie Jay, I MUCH prefer only having to have a few injections a year, (so much more convenient :p ) which is why Ive never really pushed it hard all this time.

As for getting the script and getting it done anywhere, the places I go to, are not places Id be likely to find a Dr who could do this for me (work in international development/poverty those type of areas).

I shall definitely ask about going back to sustanon. I can always be thankful for the 4 years of having it easy and not having to do it myself :p

Okay be carefull. some of those places can be quit transphobic. I had to refuse a offer once because it would cost me several years in prison.

Yeah don't worry, Im "stealth", I would never tell anyone of my past (which to me is just a medical fact, not what I am), unless necessary, so I would rather do my own injections than rely on trying to find someone to do it for me. Less stress :p

Depending on where you plan to work abroad I shouldn't think it would be a problem getting it injected — as far as being stealth goes, plenty of bio-guys need testosterone shots for low-T so it's not that unusual :) My nurse (who has instant access to all my medical history etc.) has no idea and simply remarked it was unusual to see someone so young needing it! I shouldn't think they'll ask any awkward questions — just having the medication with you should be proof enough, as anyone taking T illegitimately or dodgy reasoning isn't likely to go for something like Nebido — they're more likely to seek out hard-hitting steroids, and in that case I doubt they'd be too concerned about the safety of self-injecting  If possible, maybe it's worth just trying to contact doctors in the areas you plan to travel and ask them about it?
