Hello I am a 25 year old MTF. I finally just came out to my parents about me being transgender and started seeing a therapist who said i was ready to take hormone therapy when i feel ready for it but im worried that the hormones wont take as well as if i was younger and was wondering if anybody could tell me if hormones would still help me? Any help at all would be great thanks :)

Been having the same concerns as you, as I'm 23 and worried about leaving it too late. I've been reassured that HRT will work fine regardless of your age, and that it will give you good results.
Farewell to my friends, farewell to the life I knew. I burn what once was, and in the ashes I am born anew.

Leah, compared to some of us, you're just a kid.  Don't worry.

I started HRT at the age of 21 and saw really good results. You are not very far from that age at all, and I suspect you'll see great changes as well.

Hi Leah :)

You're overall skeleton is probably mostly set now, may still be able to get some more hip growth (bone ends fuse and stop growing around 25 I believe).

However you're still young enough  that you'll probably get a  fantastic result.  I'm having a fairly decent effect starting at 30, as have plenty of others.  Have a look through the Before/After thread, some of the transformations in there are absolutely astonishing

I started at 32 and am 1000% happy with the results. :)

(I also lost the ability to pass for male by about 6 months in, which is all I really could have hoped for.)

my theraists assured me everything will allright at 29

I started at 40 and didn't do too bad, so I doubt your age will hurt you too much.

As long as they put you on a proper dose of spiro and e you'll be fine at 25.  Even starting at a lower dose and working up you'll ge good.  Wish I had a chance at HRT when I was 25.

To dream of the person you would like to be is to waste the person you are.

I started at 29 and all I got was this stupid tee shirt.

25 is fine. Just don't smoke.

You'll be fine. I'm nearly 30 and hope to start HRT relatively soon. "Patience is a virtue" is the general theme I see around here regarding HRT.

Earlier is always better but 25 is good. Especially if you are not having had much hair loss or therelike. I did hrt at 23. It worked fine, for me it was about time as I noticed some stuff that I did not want to cotinue, like hair loss. I think possibly I prevented also more body hair which for me was very few at that time and now has a totally female pattern. Sadly no changes in skeleton, amount of facial hair or voice pitch at that time anymore :( - thats only for the teenage transitoners.
So I think 25 is good - considering al the older ones who do good as well. And so many changes are so amazing really. A very very small note of caution though - hormones dont change skeleton at that age, that means with aging you might age a bit different than other women. On the upside normally by having HRT all the time, many transpeople look younger ;)

I started at 32 (I'm now 34 now) and I cannot really now pass as male now (except on the phone  >:( ).  I've had the the same fears (and I did from when I was 22), but push came to shove and I took the leap.  Hormones had a big effect on me, and to my surprise I have found myself passing as gg even among transwomen (until I open my mouth).  25 should certainly be no barrier.

I started right before I was 25, and I'm getting okay results

My NHS doctor said to me, that over the age if 40, it does not work as good. 25 is fine.
