Whoever the surgeon, the day before surgery will be spent with a bottle of the most evil liquid, and a week's supply of toilet paper and no solid food doing a bowel prep routine.  Midnight before and up to surgery NOTHING to eat or drink!!  Evil cackle!!

From anesthesia wake up and next day, its pretty miserable just lying there in the bed, but no matter how bad you feel, its just damn amazing that it happened!! You will do fine.

Wiser now about Post Op reality!!

(Vicky - not *every* surgeon. :) Brassard has us do two enemas instead, and also the food restriction only goes into effect 12 hours before the earliest possible surgery [7 pm if they open at 7 am, basically]. I actually had a nice big dinner that night!)

OK, so I exaggerated a teeny bit!!!  I still prefer what I had to do to the other end thing!!  My "last meal" was in one of the top restaurants on San Francisco's Fishermen's Wharf, and the waiter was cute!!

Ha, good point! I've only done the one method, but I did NOT enjoy it, so maybe the other way is better. :)

Not looking forward to this at all! The pain will be temporary though I keep telling myself as my new vagina will last a lifetime! :)

About the only thing I remember is the nervousness I felt when I realized that I was finally able to get it done and mailed my last check to Montreal. When I say nervousness I mean I was afraid to stub a toe, scrape a knees, anything at all that might stop me from having the surgery. I was super double extra careful and finally breathed an enormous sigh of relief when I showed up at the clinic for surgery day. Just make sure all of your paperwork is in order when you get there and know what the birth certificate requirements are for amending your birth certificate so the letters from the surgeon have the correct wording. I know in Massachusetts it had to say "sex reassignment surgery was competed successfully". Those exact words or no new birth certificate. I had to get my letter written a second time when I was there and get that one notarized. I wasn't going to take any chances on some misinterpretation later on.

Lastly make sure you give yourself enough time to heal afterwards. Don't go crazy and start having sex or do stupid things. There will be literally hundreds of stitches down there and if you don't want it to look like frankenpussy then let it heal right and give your body time to get back to relative normal and those early dilations are the most important so don't skimp. I dilated like a rocket scientist afterwards. To me it wasn't a dilator set it was a portable chemistry lab lol.
