So weather you want it or not its here. My question since I'll be forced to buy into it is does anyone know what transgender services will be covered thru the policies offered? I would be shocked to hear that SRS is covered but if it is then cool. Hopefully someone can help sort this jumbled mess out.

If you are talking about so called Obama-care, trans related medical is NOT required to be covered. As in the past, it is up to the individual policy.

I was reading a local paper yesterday where it stated that competition was sparse in my state(NC), so coverage is gonna cost more than the national average. And from what I have seen, the "affordable" coverage is going to have very high deductibles as well. I'm liable to be paying for something I will get little if any actual benefit from and that sort of pisses me off. And I wouldn't look to get coverage for a lot of trans stuff unless I had a really good policy and likely I wouldn't be able to afford that and still live in a house...

The whole way it was done was unfair. Its like saying ok, we're gonna make you do this, but we aren't going to tell you what your actual options for meeting our requirements are until after we put it into force. I will probably have to stop my payments into my 401k in order to be able to pay any sort of premium and still have enough money to live on.

The government helps to subsidize your payments into the insurance. This is based on income. There a number of places set up to help navigate the issues depending on your state. What state are you in?  I will see what I can find for you.

I seen these in a news release and thought was worth adding here. I think it will take a few court cases to get all the coverage we need but it is way better then then just a total for profit system that kicks us to the curb.

The Affordable Care Act will end many of these absurd exclusions. In 2014, the Patient's Bill of Rights will prevent insurance companies from denying coverage based on pre-existing conditions. What's more, the ACA will bring Title VII federal nondiscrimination protections to the healthcare field. The Department of Health and Human Services, responding to both pressure from LGBTQ advocacy groups and precedents set by recent federal court cases, recently confirmed that this policy will ban discrimination based on gender identity. This will not only help transgender and gender non-conforming people obtain coverage but will also outlaw the discrimination.

The most important piece of the ACA for transgender people might also be the most contentious: the Medicaid expansion. Extending Medicaid eligibility to all people under 133 percent of the federal poverty level (around $14,000 per year for a single person) is great news for transgender people, who are four times as likely as the general population to live on less than $10,000 per year but are routinely ineligible for Medicaid. As of January 2010, for instance, low-income adults without dependent children—a demographic transgender people largely fall under—could not qualify for Medicaid in forty-three states. Single trans people are among the 16 million Americans who will be newly eligible for Medicaid in 2014.

Here's a web based form which will calculate your expected costs and subsidy levels.

Weird, I got to the log in place with no effort. The second one didn't require a log in.

And yes, Kaiser has a calculator for figuring your costs on the exchange.   BTW,my state, Wisconsin, also opted out and is using federal set up for the exchange. I see what you mean about only 3 available companies. Here we have about 10.
