I think they'll just start you off with a prescription- After you take hormones, suddenly stopping them would have a dramatic and possibly catastrophic effect on you. Not sure, though.
Whether or not you will gain any kind of damage from testosterone depends on your age and genetics, if you've already gone through your first puberty with testosterone, chances are you're done with it- however aging with testosterone will be a little different than if you had less of it.
Ultimately the year he would throw you through hoops would be for the most part wouldn't be very problematic toward how testosterone levels will effect you unless you're still physically going through puberty.
Also, being intersex isn't that deduce-able. You'd have to get genetic tests to know for sure, he's playing on your hopes for the most part I can see. Never the less, you might be intersex but looking androgynous is definitely not the tell-tale sign.
Also, technically being a transsexual in itself can also be considered some form of an intersex condition, though not genetic.
