Having top surgery Tuesday with Dr. Garramone and I can feel a cold coming.
I can feel the nasty mucus crap in my throat. Freaking the hell out.
If you have any magic remedies please post them.

Has this happened to anyone? Never heard it happen to any guy here.
Should I call the office today or wait a day to see if it'll pass? Not fully sick yet, so maybe I can fight it off.
This sucks; plane tickets are brought,  time off work is set up...

Thank you Canada for the viral infections that go around every damn session change v_v

I had a similar situation a couple of years ago where I came down with a nasty cold & chesty cough just before I was due to have an operation. I called the hospital and explained my symptoms to them, and asked for their advice. They were happy to continue with the operation as long as the anaesthetist was happy with the quality of my breathing (which he was), so the operation went ahead.

Under normal circumstances I'd take high doses of vitamin C, echinacea and eat plenty of garlic if I felt a cold coming on... but these aren't normal circumstances. I wouldn't recommend trying any magic remedies without checking with Dr. G's office first.

I got sick right before my chest surgery. I didnt say anythting (Which was probably unwise) It is proven (not a wives tale) that garlic (raw) will shorten the duration or even prevent a cold from developing.

I don't know Dr. G's requirements, but my top surgeon advises that his patients must avoid aspirin and ibuprofen in the seven days prior to surgery; and he also says that garlic supplements, ginkgo biloba, willow bark extracts, feverfew and St. John's Wort must be avoided for at least 5 days before surgery.

avoid herbal remedies, until after the surgery. the best cure for a cold is to hide in bed, asleep or just half asleep doesn't matter. just stay there and relax. and relax. tell any anxiety to stay away, and only come back after you leave for the surgery.

if you have work or school, attend. but get in bed as soon as you get home. and make sure to eat healthy food. without spices that the doctors say you should avoid. like garlic and ginger. i'm not sure if chili is on that list. if it isn't, eat more of that.

when i can just get in bed early enough, a beginning cold will be gone within two days at the most. do nothing stressful at all. and make sure you always keep warm. wear thick scarf and wool sweater when leaving bed. a good natural remedy for itchy or sore throat, is to smear on some camphor oil. very thinly, and only twice a day. it works like magic, much better than any type of pain killers (i can't give you any guarantees though, that would probably be unethical). hopefully it's permitted to mention a natural remedy like this, or some mod will have to correct me.

Zicam! It's zinc so that I think the interaction would be nil. Put yourself on the spray, nasty nasty stuff, every 4 hours religiously. This stuff works if taken soon enough. Zicam and zinc gluconate are not on the list.

Sounds like just nerves. Same type of thing happened to me in the weeks proceeding my jaw surgery to correct a birth defect back in December of '11.
Hey, you've reached Lauren's signature! If you have any questions, want to talk, or just need a shoulder to cry on, leave me a message, and I'll get back to you.

I'd call Garramone's office to ask them what to do.  I think you should not hide it.  They will work with you.  Speaking of which, I had my reveal today with Garramone and I am very pleased with the results!  The guy is a genius!

If he takes Zicam no need to hide anything. Chances are he'll feel fine. OTOH, I agree if you continue to feel sick.
I agree with Dr. G being a genius.

Well I wasn't allowed garlic or basically any kind of medication or anything;
so I thought why not chug orange juice, since it has a lot of vitamin C and it was mentioned here.
Actually felt better the next morning. So if you get sick before surgery, try oranges!
Now I'm healthy and just excited o:

I was sick prior to surgery, I asked an was told that it's not really an issue unless there is trouble with breathing.
I also think they like to know in case you are on antibiotics so they don't give you too many after surgery.

I was given this list of medications and supplements to avoid prior to surgery.
Hope it's helpful!

EDIT: I'm in Australia, so there may be some difference in brand names.

I got a similar list from Dr. G. It doesn't have some of these and has a few that aren't on there.
But the basic list is the same.
