Which is great! I feel it's another step to cross off the list.

But now begins the long, arduous process of waiting.

Anybody in the UK feel like sharing how long they had to wait? Of course I welcome anybody's input, but as I'm going through the NHS I'd love to know how long it took for others who went the same route as me. :)
Farewell to my friends, farewell to the life I knew. I burn what once was, and in the ashes I am born anew.

Congrats!  :D

The wait very much depends on the clinic, and also on your local health authority. The clinic will process your referral in due course, but GD isn't routinely funded on the NHS so they have to apply to your local health authority for exceptional funding before they can see you. Only after your local authority has approved your funding will you get an appointment date from the GIC.

If you've been referred to London, you might be in for a looooooooong wait I'm afraid, not just for the first appointment, but also between subsequent appointments. But many of the other clinics are quicker.

I was originally referred to London but after waiting 7 months without receiving an appointment (they hadn't even processed the paperwork), I cancelled my referral there and was referred to another clinic. I saw them two months later, and after 3 assessments over a period of 18 weeks (6 weeks between assessments) I was cleared for hormones & surgery.

All-in-all, the time between coming out to my doctor and starting hormones was about 14 months. And that took a lot of pushing.

The good news is that the rules have changed recently (August) so if you want to start HRT you can ask your GP to put you on 'bridging endocrine treatment' while you wait for the clinic to come back to you.

Congrats! Is that with the psychosexual therapist you mentioned, or an actual GIC? Either way, it's good news!

It's all in one of the documents I linked to a couple of weeks ago on that thread of yours: http://www.cliniq.org.uk/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderfiles/nhsenglandinterimgenderprotocolcpag12072013.pdf

"The system" I was referring to is the current NHS Protocol for the treatment of Gender Dysphoria.
"Bridging endocrine treatments" are on page 15 of the document linked above.

Congratulations hun!

Which clinic are you waiting on?  I'm waiting for my first appointment at Leeds GIC, should get round to being seen in September next year after an initial consultation with my GP back end of May/beginning of June, 16 month wait approximately :(

I'm gonna have to have a word with my GP about this "bridging endocrine treatment", I wasn't 100% sure I was trans until I started low dosage self medding (yes, I'm a naughty girl, but I didn't feel like I had a choice, at the time I started the Leeds GIC were generally requiring a 3 month RLE before giving a prescription).

Happy to here some people are making forward progress, I say that knowing some others have recently posted as much too.

Glad to hear it people :)

Remember, there is a big difference between a long wait, and no schedule at all from not having done anything at all yet.

My wait might be a longish one, but, at least I pulled the switch and started the machine :)
Well being TG is no treat, but becoming separated has sure caused me more trouble that being TG ever will be. So if I post, consider it me trying to distract myself from being lonely, not my needing to discuss being TG. I don't want to be separated a lot more than not wanting to be male looking.

Thanks everybody! I feel I'm finally on the road now. Patience is a virtue I will be relying heavily on.

I think it's Wrexham! I regret not being in England for transition, but I'll be in Wales for the forseeable future, and I didn't want to waste any time getting the ball rolling!
