I know that some trans women have experienced rejection by lesbians who only want to associate with "born females".  Womyn's Festival has received a lot of (negative) publicity for prohibiting trans women.

I went to a GLBT club last week to hear a band (Sister Funk – great band who does a cover of 4 non-blondes "What's Up" that was better than the original as well as a lot of their own original material).  There are about 20 trans women that go to the club on Saturdays but I was the only one in the room where the band concert was.  I sat at a small table by myself.  After the first set, a woman came over and ask if I was waiting for someone.  When I said no, she asked if I would like to come over and join the group at their table.  These ladies included me in their conversations (and gossip about the band) and dancing.  The concert was much more fun shared with others than sitting alone.  I felt totally accepted by the group – a wonderful feeling. 

Just the week before at the same club, a woman came by my table and gave me some literature inviting me to join a meetup group for LBT women over 55 (for which I unfortunately qualify).

The lesbian community to be wonderfully kind and accepting to me - thanks.

Wow!!  That's such a heartwarming story.  It's little things like this that people take for granted mean the world to us! 

That story gives me such hope... thank you for sharing it!  I dream that one day I will be truly accepted, as well.

Congrats!  I know nothing of the lesbian community, but I imagine many are accepting.  It's the straight male community that scares me.

So happy you're being accepted like that. 

A real "want" that I've denied myself is to go to the DNA louge in San Francisco on a night when they host one of the Hubba Hubba Reviews.  On the live webcams you can see the crowd there is a mixed group of straight individuals with an equal number of people from the LGBT community (plus I know a couple transmen who go there a lot).  But the people at the DNA are at least 20 years younger than me, and I just don't want to be out of place.   

Maybe some night I'll just cut the ropes that hold me back.

Lori, I don't know about others here but i have noticed that it's not just the lesbian community that is accepting of us trans women, but it seems to be women in general that seem more accepting of us. Just an observation from my life tho as others may have noticed differently.

Personally from my own experiences, at least off this site, in general, I find lesbians, especially MtF lesbians, to be rather unsupportive of me.
After joining here, I relegate this discovery to be purely coincidental; I'm probably just acquainted to the wrong crowd offsite.

Anyways, though, it looks like you made some good friends, Lori, and maybe something more

It's not all of them of course, but frankly, I refuse to use terms like womyn mainly because I think too often too many of the group are too often just too full of their own hate.

I have enough hate, I'm not going looking to support the hate of others

It's nice to know there are people out there not going along with the mannerisms of some of the bad apples.
