I can't offer any perspective or advice, but I wanted to say good luck getting through the biopsies. Dealing with this potentially life-altering news is no doubt immensely stressful, but you do seem to be approaching it in a level-headed way.

Your parents increased support on the trans front is a positive. It is good you have them and your partner as a backbone support network to be there for you through this.

Sorry to hear your university is being difficult - I know some schools have an approval process that can be worked out with some paperwork and administrative approval when you are just short of a few credits.

My sister had her thyroid removed due to cancer. It has not inhibited her life in any way. She does have to take hormones to replace what her thyroid used to supply. While I am sorry that you are going through this scary time, don't panic yet, it may not be debilitating, just as annoying as having to take T the rest of your life. I do hope it is not a cancer that spreads or anything.

I found a lump in my neck and reported to the doc about it and they were worryed that i had thyroid, but i had two scans and a few blood tests, they were happy that it wasnt anything serious. But they did meation i had quite a bit of cyst on my glands both sides.  But i didnt have the thyroid biopsy so i cant help you with that.  (P.s i stuffer from acne so they think it link to that)

My sister has no noticeable scar. I will call her and ask about your other questions. She may have some other insights as she is an RN and has been for over 25 years.

I just got off the phone with my sister. She said the scar was unnoticeable from about 6 months after her thyroid was removed. The needle biopsy is numbed with lidocaine and feels no more painful than getting an IV or a shot. It takes about 10 minutes.

90% of thyroid cancers are localized and usually a test with radiated iodine shows if it has spread. A one time dose of chemo is usually all that is called for.

I forgot to ask what type of cancer other than hers was a localized one. She did say that taking the thyroid medicine was no big deal but you need to watch the hormone levels. I'm sure that if it is necessary that your doctor will give you more information.

She said to tell you that it really isn't to big of a worry and to take it easy. She would like to know how it all turns out for you.
