I'm shrinking

This is something I've started to notice and I've measured myself on several occasions, but I've actually lost height. pre-hrt I was 5'9" and I've been like that for a long while. But now, I'm affirmed 5'7.5" feet.

My brother visited me the other day (he's starting to warm up to talking to me and visiting me, he stopped talking to me for 8 months when I told him I was transitioning). Anyway, my brother has always been shorter than me (he's 5'8"), but now he's taller. He's also much bigger -- although, he hasn't changed in size, but I have.

It's really surreal to see my brother, because we used to look very much alike. We had the same build and looks. But now, I'm much, much smaller. It's a weird feeling, like looking into a mirror into the past. My shoulders are much smaller, my arms, everything. He's so huge, and I used to be built like that.

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone else noticed that they've lost some height while on HRT. I think it's because I've lost a lot of muscle mass.

Oddly enough, my shoe size is a bit smaller as well. And I wouldn't think that feet would shrink.

I lost a lot of muscle mass and 1 inch in height.  I know that the loss of muscle mass is related to HRT in my case however the loss of height in my particular case is uncertain as we do tend to get a little shorter as we age, and I've aged :)

Feet can shrink just by losing weight (do a google search).  For you, it's probably due to losing muscle mass.  Mine shrank a whole shoe size.

I haven't lost even one single mm in height (I'm 39), though I've lost more than a size in shoes (I'm 9-9.5 US Female Size).

Heightwise, I shrank a little bit. Maybe a bit less than half an inch from my peak.

My feet shrank noticeably, at least a full shoe size. Unfortunately that means I have a protruding bone (slight) here and there, but its not bad.

Muscle loss can cause a shrinking back. Bones don`t shrink. (from what I`ve been told) My ciropractor said when I stop being a stone mason to keep up some kind of excersise on my back or it will shrink meaning the soft tissue between the vertebret is crunching from lack of muscle support.

I lost 1 1/2 inches in height  (went from 5 ft 10.5 to 5ft 9) and a shoe size.

I have been on hormones 8 years now.

That's another thing that gives me hope. I'm around 5'9", and recently, I started hating it, as it's not the height the majority of females are. Now I just live with it. I fluctuate between 135-140 pounds, and have slimmed alot in the past few years, but my damn shoulders are still as big as a linebacker. Once I start full HRT, I'm hoping that changes ALOT.

When he was ready he showed it to his friends and they said he had created a great statue. And the sculptor said he hadn't created anything, the statue was always there, he just cleared away the small peices." Rambo III

Well, I've never even thought about "shrinking"... That's funny... I remember someone said Hormone wouldn't make miracle, but it would make magic...

I'm only around 5' 4.5" (haven't measured for a long time). I was hoping I could grow a bit higher, but now I hope I wont shrink instead... My shoes are size 7 US Female, and for that I don't mind, if it shrinks a lil bit... :)

Interesting as I noticed I have shrunk to 5ft 6inch I used to be 5ft 7 inches. Of course I am 48 so that might account for it, lol.

I also thought the other day that when I went out as a male I always thought I was small for a man and most were taller. Now I think I am tall (for a woman), crazy.

I certainly haven't shrunk in the slightest after about 15 months of HRT, and to tell the truth I kind of hope that I don't start to. Sure, being able to buy jeans that aren't way too short would be nice, but really thats a minor thing, and the only benefit that immediately comes to mind. I like being tall, it makes me feel attractive as a woman. And being tall doesn't mean that people don't see me as a woman, they just see me as a tall woman. Go figuire ::).

I'm 6'5" by the way. My feet have gone from an Australian 12 to an 11 - but I lost a lot of weight. Nothing magical about that, just eating sensibly.

I also lost about an inch in height.

I didn't think that shrinking was possible. I knew that one could get smaller because of losing muscle mass, but after reading all these posts ,I guess it's quite possible! If my upper body would shrink a bit, that would make me so happy! I'm not to concerned about my height because I,m 5' 10" and this day and age Biological females are getting taller. There are a few bio. females that I know , that are about my height. It's not all that unusual to see taller women out there!
Hmmm! I wonder if my hands would shrink too.  ???

I'm not on hormones yet, but I wanted to comment on Melissa's post about losing foot size. I have lost about a full size since I lost 40 lbs. I swore there's NO way I could lose foot size just by losing weight but I have shoes that I couldn't wear before and now I can. Also, I put my wedding ring on my finger the other day just to see if my finger size changed, oh my God! It just falls off my finger. It's amazing what losing weight can do to parts of your body you never thought much about.

I have lost at least an inch in height. I think the more you distribute the weight around you are going to see differences in several places. I exersize everyday so that I don't acumulate it in the wrong places. I am very vain about my figure. That is just me! It is a constant battle. I fluctuate from 128 to 135 lb's all the time. I have always had small feet, but wide. It was hard to find shoes in the begining, but my feet have narrowed a bit making it a little easier to find shoes that fit.
As long as the boobs don't shrink I am ok.

Oh, good, I'm not the only person who shrank. I know a lot of women who are taller than me. It seems like the younger people are as tall as me or taller.  I'm pretty average height around here.

I lost a lot of weight when I went on HRT, too.

I heard many said they gained weight because of HRT... but in my case, I also lost at least 10lbs 1-2 monthes after I started HRT about 3 years ago. I guess it's more like an excuse for those who complain they gained weight because of the hormone... I think it more depends on if you take care of yourself...

After reading all the posts, now I'm seriously worrying about the "shrinking", cause I fear my hip gonna shrink... I'm around 116 lbs, and I was thinking to lose a few pounds more, but now I doubt if I really need that...

I didn't realize that you would shrink in size. I know the muscle mass would diminish and that would account for shoulder and arm size. If you lost any weight you could go down in shoe size. I thought maybe it was cause I was getting older. I was 5'11.5" before HRT and now 3 years post op I'm 5'9". Now during that time I have lost 60lbs through dieting, but have gain 20 of it back. I lost a lot of muscle and my shoe size has come down a size from the time I started HRT.

I hope I don't shrink, as I'm already only 4 inches away from needing a booster seat according to those Disney billboards!  >:(

I have however, lost about 8 pounds in a little over a month.  I started HRT about the same time.  It has me kind of worried, since that brought my weight down to 90 lb.
