2. "Boys Don't Cry" -- Hilary Swank won an Oscar as Teena Brandon, who tried to pass as a man named Brandon Teena in the Midwest and met a brutal end. No matter how you feel about transgender behavior, you can't help but be touched by someone so uneasy in her own skin.

...

9. "Tootsie" -- Dustin Hoffman nudges out Williams in the ugly sweepstakes, playing an out-of-work actor who masquerades as a woman to get a job on a soap opera -- and raises everyone's consciousness, including his.

Yeah, yeah yeah.  I know, horrible stereotypes, but as far as a gender-bending comedy that actually handled things somewhat sensitively and didn't use the gender bending itself as a massive "ZOMG MAN IN DRESS" joke?

Mrs. Doubtfire.

Yes, Robin Williams messed around and made some off-colour jokes regarding swapping gender roles in the movie, but when Robin Williams was Mrs. Doubtfire, he was generally acting the part of a woman, albeit one who was inept in certain areas, rather than acting the part of "Dude in dress."

Y'know?

i love that singer's voice, what's his (i'm guessing identity from voice) story? the voice is very male, which is a good thing i do't like female vocalists. but he is going a bit past the typical marilyn manson / alice cooper level of girlyness?

or is it a transwommen manning up the voice... in which case i just got so much more hope...

Of course we should'nt omits the classic "Some like it hot".
But for me films like Neil Jordan's "Breakfast on Pluto" and "The Crying Game" as well as "Transamerica" and "Priscilla Queen of the Desert" or even in some ways "La Cage aux Folles" (the original French version by Jean Poiret et Michel Serrault) are the one I  have seen that best depict TGs and TSs as real persons with dreams, hopes, problems, struggles, thoughts and feelings.
