Beth Andrea

I went to the post office on Monday, to mail a package and to hand in my passport application...I first went to the clerk (a woman) and did the package mailing, during which she said I had beautiful skin, "much better than hers", and "it's glowing!" I noticed she was talking in girl-to-girl style, which I always think is cool, it means that she at least accepts me as a woman, even if I don't think I look very much like one....so yeah, I thanked her and gave her a compliment, something about her hair iirc...and then I went over to wait for the passport office to open.

Got in there, the lady there of course saw my Dr's letter advising of my gender change; she wasn't too girl-to-girl in conversation, not rude or anything, just very professional, detached. (She was also very busy; only one there). She told me to go out and get two money orders to pay for the passport...

I went back out, to the same clerk, got the money orders, she asked if I was getting a passport.

"Yes, yes I am."

"Oh? Gonna do some traveling?"

*slight smile* "Yes...I was thinking about Thailand, Mexico...maybe South Korea."

"Ooh! Gonna go sightseeing?"

"No, I'll be a bit busy I think."

"Ooh...work?"

"No, for surgeries."

*sad face, soft voice* "Surgeries? What..."

*I glance down just a bit, look up with a slight smile*

*look of surprise* Oooh...! Oh, I...I'm so happy for you! Bet you're excited!"

*a bit of small talk after*

After this, while I was sitting thinking about it, I realized she was surprised because  she thought I was a woman! Really and for true! First time ever for me!!!

:)

What an awesome feeling!

And here's a pic to show what I looked like that day, just before heading out to the P'Office:

You do look like a woman! It's as much about what's inside...

(...and facial hair :P bleh ;))

Eine Stürminfräu?

Probably misspelled, but yeah it's the idea... ;)

Ugh, yeah. Also, I've just started working-ish on my voice. Not too girlie, but less mannish. That might have helped...

I just *had* to buy it when I saw it... :D I think of it as the trans*woman's credo... :P

Huge congratulations!  :)

Be sure to save some of the happy and bottle it for future use... one can never have too much happy. ;)

Another cool thing today: a woman I work with said I waved to her this saturday, and she didn't know it was me, just "some woman"...

It's rare to get any feedback from people who know me...but when it's good feedback, it's delicious.

Ah yes the old two money order trick.  Why don't they tell that when filling out the form?  I had to do the same thing.

Looking as lovely as ever, Beth.

It does not take courage or bravery to change your gender.  It takes fear of living one more day in the wrong one.~me
