Does anyone here actually look out for trans people while out and about?

I live in a rural area, so there aren't very many of us around here. I'm not actively looking, but have occasionally seen someone who might've been. I didn't go up and ask them though  ;) so I don't know for sure.

It's probably not a good idea to go up and ask them.  With most transsexuals, I can tell that they don't want any attention in public. Don't ask, don't tell.  ;D

if a trans person deliberately outed me in public, or said are you ts? id probably do something unmentionable with a bottle of tobasco sauce, and some pomegrannate...

I was in San Francisco couple weeks ago, through the Tenderloin on business, and the place was crawling with T's. Several per block there for a minute. The sidewise smile, each to the other.

Practically no one else took notice (outside of the pimps and ->-bleeped-<-s of course...) of us.

T'were amusing.

Yes, Wishy, I look too.  I see them fairly frequently here in Dallas...well, at least I THINK they are.  And, like Jaston, I have trouble sometimes telling the FTM from the Butch.

cos then that would blow my cover of being an idiot.

All I have to do is open my mouth and my cover is blown. All the world knows I am a few enchiladas short of a full combo plate.

Ya put your right foot in.  You put your right foot out.  You put your right foot in and you shake it all about.  You do the Andro-gyney and you turn yourself around.  That's what it's all about.

I really disliked tenderloin when I lived in SFO, its like its own little world people don't seem to walk out of (its not very big at all). The criminality there is much higher than anywhere else in the city; rents are also much cheaper (but that's only because elsewhere the rent is insane, there its still expensive)

In North Beach, Telegraph Hill, Financial District, Russian Hill, Union Square, Nob Hill, Fisherman's Warf and  and SOMA, I didn't see many, if at all.

I lived on Telegraph Hill, next to north beach and even if the red light district was right down the hill on Broadway, I don't recall seeing TS's there; maybe I was blind!

You've all inspired me to take a camera and a net and go out and find some Ts in my area.  I'll let you know what I find, if I survive  ;D

I did hear once that transpeople do not really exist. Those who believe in transpeople are more likely to spot a leprechaun or the easter bunny.   ???

If I do catch one, I'll be rich because people will line up for a view.  :o

I live in a very gay-friendly part of Seattle, so spotting TS people out and about is kinda common. :)

So why not play spot the straight or non-TS person instead?

Ugh... Am I being mean or stereotypical? I've had a bad case of foot-in-mouth this week and by no means do I wish to spread it here. :(

I think the point is knowing we are not alone in our localities.

Also, it gave me a good feeling seeing all those trans people when I was going into boston. It helped me to understand there is nothing wrong with me (except for that which is probably obvious to many of you).

im fairly happy being alone... only, wait im not, 50% of my locality have my own gender in... so whats the issue? looking out for trans folk only reminds you of your past... why bother?

Not my past.  It's like we are talking of hunting them down like dracula or something.  It's just that sometimes, out of curiosity, we like to see whether there are others and how do they appear to be coming along.
I mean, I'm sure that women eyeball each other now and then and it's possible that men look at other men and quietly think "I wish I had his hair", or "Look at that chest. He makes me look like nothing."  What's wrong with trans people doing it?  Do we not need role models or points of comparison in who we are?

if you identify as a trans person, and wish to compete with other trans people, fine
i choose to call women my peers, and compare with them...

That's groovy too.  Everyone is different and there is no right or wrong.

actually, there is... how can we live in a world with no right or wrong without it implodeing? nice sentiment, but impractical as hell.
