Hi, my name is Janessa Williams!
I'm a pre-op MTF from Southern Utah. I like rock climbing, yoga, working out and video games.
I've known for a few years now that I'm transgender, but I'm just starting my transition.

Um, let me know if you have any questions.

Nice to meet you Janessa!   :)

I love southern Utah.  The drive north from Las Vegas is spectacular.

It does not take courage or bravery to change your gender.  It takes fear of living one more day in the wrong one.~me

Hi Janessa, nice name.

Question 1) (yes the interrogation starts now) What is the attraction to climbing rocks? I get enough exercise in emotionally climbing walls, which usually involves pacing for hours and there fore isn't exactly wall climbing?

BTW, This run-on question is allowed.

Welcome to Susan's and the insanity that is me.

Hi Janessa! Welcome to the family my new adopted sister. That's right, this is not a forum, but a family. It won't take you very long to find this out. The respect and caring is here and Susan's is so addictive you may find you lose track of time really quickly. So sneak a few of Maggie's cookies and make yourself at home. Just don't touch her chocolate, people disappear shortly after *giggles*.  :)

What is the attraction to climbing rocks?
Kat, the attraction to climbing rocks can be a lot of different things. Some people do it because its literally a physical representation of overcoming something. I started climbing to get over my fear of heights, but now its more about problem solving. I love figuring out the sequence of the movements that will make getting to the top as effortlessly as possible, kinda like a dance almost.  :)

Cool, that is an explanation that makes sense to me. Thanks for the answer.

Question 2) You mentioned you were pre-op, but have not mentioned anything about HRT. Have you started HRT or do you plan to?
  •

JnessaJane

Sorry, I should have done this sooner, but thank you all for the warm welcome!

Hopefully I will be starting HRT by the end of this month. *Fingers Crossed* I'm really excited to see what Estrogen and Spiro will do for me. Everyone in the Before and After thread looks amazing!

Aren't the Before & After transitions mind-blowing?
  •

LordKAT

Congrats on the HRT.

I'm curious on Question 3) What areas do you usually go to for your rock climbing and what got you into it?

Ok that is 2 questions so the next one will be 5.

I'm curious on Question 3) What areas do you usually go to for your rock climbing and what got you into it?
I started climbing through an after school program in middle school(junior high), called the GRIPS program. The program focused on goal setting, teamwork, and problem solving in outdoor settings. So we did stuff like rappelling, climbing, activities on a high ropes course, etc. I thought the climbing was fun, but I didn't really get into it until I went with my scout group, which was full of athletic boys, and I was the only that was naturally good at it. It definitely gave me a confidence boost.
As for places or areas I usually go, I live in a city that sits in a valley, but is right next to the mountains. So during the winter we climbing in the valley and when its to hot in the summer we head up the mountain. There is also a couple of climbing gyms in town that can be visited when the weather gets really bad.

I'm glad you have a hobby that improves your confidence. That is one thing that is so easily eroded in our tiny population.

I was in Eastern Tennessee for a while. I loved that you got warm, you just climbed uphill a bit.

Question 5) Do you have any idea of career goals and if so, what are they?

I would like to start a personal training business tailored to trans-identified individuals. I feel like regular physical activity is important for everyone regardless of their gender identity. I also know that gyms can be intimidating to most trans folk so I would like to create a friendly environment where we can workout without worry of being "clocked" or judged.

A very good idea!

6) Do you have an idea on how you are going to be able to do that?

Thank you! I graduated last spring with a Bachelors in Exercise Science and Athletic Training and I'll be finishing up an internship this coming May. I have the knowledge and know-how so really I just need to find a location and some investors. Financially I'm in no place to start a business right now, I have thought about maybe doing a Kickstarter. (Don't worry I know if I start one I can't advertise it here)
