Prominent Ugandan LGBT activist Samuel K Ganafa has been arrested and reportedly charged with "carnal knowledge against the order of nature," a crime that is often code-word for sodomy and carries a sentence of life in prison in Uganda.

The arrest of Ganafa, the executive director of Spectrum Uganda, is the latest in a series of moves against the LGBT community in Uganda. "We remain very concerned about space for LGBT activism in Uganda," said Maria Burnett of Human Rights Watch.

[It's speculated that he was]  arrested for his outspoken support of Uganda's embattled LGBT community.

I'd have said Uganda is terrifying. I get angry when I think about U.S. politics and how we're treated state side ... but anger itself is a luxury in a way. It's nothing compared to some other countries that I would be afraid to even travel through because of their laws.

Actually, I believe I posted an article here before that was about how.Uganda's tour groups are losing business because lgbt groups and individuals are boycotting traveling there in favor of other African countries. As a response some are hiring gay tour guides and some are setting up gay-friendly tour packages.

It's a shame. Besides this issue, Uganda is one of my favorite African countries. I rather enjoyed my visit there a few years ago.
