Ms Grace

I was going to post this under What Made You Happy, but it's a bit involved and besides it really made my day, my week! :)

We do a weekly yoga class at work. A yoga teacher comes in and takes us through a session. It's totally voluntary and has been going on for almost ten years now. The whole class is made up female colleagues and myself plus a female teacher. I wasn't feeling up to doing a class yesterday so didn't attend.

One of my colleagues in the class knows I am trans* and in the process of transition. She told me that when the teacher heard I wasn't coming she said it was an opportunity to do more female specific asanas and the like. Another colleague piped up and said I wouldn't have minded anyway because I was an honorary woman. My fellow yogi said to me she thought to herself "if only she knew!"

It was a great little story and made me feel so great. Even in guy mode it would seem I'm considered one of the girls by at least some of the women at work! Yay! ;D

Thank you both! It's actually not the first time I've been given that "title". Back when I was at uni, well before I had thought about transitioning (or even realised it was a possibility) a female friend declared, unprompted, that I wasn't like other guys and that I was an honorary woman. She was one of my greatest supporters when I did decide to go down the path of transition the first time. So I guess that this latest instance could bode well for transition at work. :)

The only thing about being an "honorary woman" is that I find it buys very limited "privileges", and even then it's only amongst those women who know me well enough. It's a start though.

Talking about smiles, I think the "Honorary Woman" Grace reminds me an awful lot of Diane Keaton, one of my favorite actresses! What say you?

*hug*  I'm delighted for you, and can't wait until you are ready to drop the "honorary" in front of the world and assume the identity you've had all along!

You are a wonderful woman, and I am proud to know you.  :)
