Hello ladies!
I was just wondering... how long should it take to see effects in someone doing hrt? My gf started her hormones January of this year, so we are coming up on the 1 yr anniversary but it seems as if her changes have been happening so slowly! She has minor breast development and that is about the only change (I can see). I tried to take before/after pics with her but she is silly and wouldn't make a normal face so they are pretty worthless lol. But I had a theory... she is 5'10 and only 120-124lbs. So perhaps her lack of fat is why I can't see more change? Also, the doctor started her on a very low dose to begin with and she's only been bumped up twice now, but idk if it's like.. at normal dosing now or what. idk what the normal timeline is for that stuff.... I know it's different for everybody, but what is the normal time in which most people see the most significant changes? btw, she and I are both quite happy with how she has come along so far, but I've just been curious lately! Thanks :3

It's not the same for everyone, but I noticed my skin turned girly soft in about a month and some breast development in 3 months with body hair starting to evaporate.  10 1/2 months in I have almost a 42B where I was completely flat before.  I hope I can double the volume and avoid the augmentation, but I've heard I probably shouldn't expect much more than a full 'B' due to already being middle aged.

wow that is incredibly fast! and b's are great, that's like average, isn't it??? Imma b cup too :P

that makes me think of another thing tho.. she was always very androgynous and got misgendered (still does as she lives in boymode) all the time! Her skin has always been soft and nice and she's always had practically no body hair. she has sparse facial hair but we are doing laser on that now. doc also said her t was on the low end of average before she started hormones.. maybe this had something to do with.. something? idk!

It's hard to say.  I started to notice some changes early on, but most were fairly minor.  While they were noticeable, it was nothing drastic. It wasn't until my latest dose increase that I really started to "see" noticeable differences.  And even then, it's progressively improving at a steady but slow rate.  I'm still in the getting there mode after 5 or so months on hrt completely.  In my case,  it seems like I needed a certain level in order to respond to the hormones.  Remember that everyone reacts differently and patience is required.

I had  a lot of changes after a year. Breasts  became very tender size B cup, skin much softer, much less hair, smaller waist.
Maybe she should talk to her endo. about this.
I have been on estrogen and progesterone  for 24 years and sprio off and on but not for about 8 years. I have not totally transitioned yet but since  my breasts are very noticeable  36 I it is pretty much impossible not be seen as female. Just went full time. :) Yes I still do yard work!

I've been wondering about that. How does it happen? Does it just fall out and either not grow back or grow back thinner/lighter? Or does it change without coming out? And to what degree has yours changed?

I did the body wax thang twice over.  Hair follicles don't want to regenerate so much on HRT.  I left some places on the chest that I just shave, just to gauge how it's coming along and these are getting much finer and grow pretty slowly.  Eventually I'm going to have to let them go for a couple of weeks so I can wax that as well.  Upper legs at the groin are getting more sparse and finer, so it's starting to look like "That '70s bush" now.  I'll be needing a bikini wax next summer.

I've been on HRT for 2 months. Most of the change is mental I just feel so much better mentally. I keep thinking about longing to do this for so long and finally doing it. I'm not totally sure but I think I'm experiencing some shifting of fat in my face. It's kind of weird my face does look different.

The physical changes are slow. You see her everyday so they will be harder for you to detect. Putting some weight on will help. It takes around 5 years for HRT to do it's work. Initial changes like skin texture happen quite early, fat redistribution is slower and muscle changes are even slower still.

Ah, that's what I was thinking. In the next few months I'll probably start trying that, see if there is any change.

I'm at about 2 months as well, and I feel like my face looks slightly different too. Maybe I'm taking better care of my skin? Maybe it's the laser? Skin softening? Or maybe it really is some subtle start to the fat redistribution. Hard to tell for sure, but the difference is there. :)

It depends on your doseage imo.

My doctor was pretty cautious, and well it took a few steps up and a bit of time before the effects were so noticeable.

Ive been on about the same time frame of your girlfriend.

I do however think her weight is an issue regarding this~ she should probably try to put on about ten pounds, maybe even 20..

Yea, it takes a bit. Also depends on the dosage and such.

My doctor says breast development hits the max at about two years. Three at most.

Yeah, weight seems to be the biggest issue - very slim cis girls are rarely overly curvy too, because curves need fat to exist. :)

(I'm... not thin at all, and was a DD cup and 4 pants sizes bigger in the butt at the one-year mark. But of course the fact that I wasn't lightly built also means those curves aren't as dramatic as on the lucky hourglass women!)

I wanted to add that not everything is purely hormones.  Things like laser, eyebrow shaping, and hair styling can really help your partner look different.  When you factor in the small facial changes with hrt, there is a lot that can change without waiting on hormones.  Has she tried to feminize her appearance besides hormones?  If she hasn't, it may really help.

THIS!
Hormones are fine and dandy, but there are so many things we can do ourselves that can greatly improve our result :) it's a team effort! :D

agreed, however it is seemingly impossible for her to do so. She's always been one of those people that eats a ton but NEVER gains weight! Trust me, I've tried, I love a little(lot :D) of cushion. But I think it might just be the way she is! Her next appointment is tuesday so i guess we'll see what the doc says! he seems impressed by the changes so far so I guess that is good!

and yes, in the beginning she did do her eyebrows and shes still getting laser treatment for her face. however you may be right bc since schools been in her brows have grown back and she's in study mode, so i guess she can't think of much else! computer engineering degrees are apparently incredibly difficult! 3 more semesters till shes done!! she'll prolly focus on herself more then

she needs to try and gain some weight. I'm 5'6 and 123 lbs so we are the same weight yet I'm trying to gain some. My sleepy BF called me fat the other day (jokingly) and then backtracked and told me not to get any weird complex thinking I'm actually fat (i do that a lot he has a point).

I did gain weight in my thighs even as I lost weight elsewhere. But I'm at 9.5 mnths and I have had a lot of changes: face, breasts and weightloss. My boobs are huge that's the biggest change and the one I needed the least. Was a 36b pre/now a 34D. I will say in the last mnth my butt gained weight cuz I wore these jeans today that are tight tight tight yet weren't like that a month ago.

At last January we would have started round the same time. 5'10" and ~150 lbs.

I dunno, I don't see much change in the mirror but I find I get gendered appropriately when I'm wearing a hoodie, hair in a pony tail and pants. In other words, when I'm dressed like I used to dress all the time.

As has been said, laser and brow shaping help. Skin care too! I have a cleanser, an eye moisturizer and a face moisturizer as part of my nightly routine. Been helping with some of the lines on my face too! And I'm 35, with a past life as a grouchy boy. I need help on the lines front!

In all honesty though, I think the #1 best thing I can do to feminize myself is smile. Boobs help too. Love em'. Still have a lot of air in a B cup bra but these girls are mine! MINE! MINE! MINE!

Slow and steady is how it goes. I just hope she's enjoying her life as much as I!
