Waitress who received alleged anti-gay receipt suspended pending investigation

Yahoo News | Jay Busbee

The New Jersey waitress who claimed she received an anti-gay message in lieu of a tip has been suspended pending an investigation.

Dayna Morales, a waitress at the Gallop Asian Bistro restaurant in Bridgewater, N.J., said that a couple who ate at the restaurant paid their bill but left no tip, saying "I'm sorry but I cannot tip because I do not agree with your lifestyle and how you live your life." Morales is gay.

However, the couple later came forward and provided their copy of the receipt to counter Morales' charges, along with a copy of the credit card statement indicating that the tip had been included. Now, the restaurant has suspended Morales pending its investigation into her conduct.

I agree with the rest of the story. Why donate money for something like that even if it were true?  I need it worse than an insulted waitress.

That's so disappointing. Because homophobia is still very real; the last thing anyone needs is people faking it to get attention and/or money. Really does not paint gay or lesbians in a good light at all!

It's hardly the first or only Victim Scam, either. Think the Duke rape accusation, or the fake racist messages on college dorm walls, or the anti-trans message recently that turned out to have been written by the school's transgender LGBT group leader.
Activism is only good when it has a clear and negative target. Without a target, it sometimes goes crazy and tries to create one, to foment anger and "spirit of change" where none exists. And then we get stuff like this.

I feel sorry for the innocent customers here - being framed for moral crimes, having their lives potentially destroyed - whether it was the waitress who framed them or a coworker, they are as much the victims as anyone, potentially moreso.
Don't lose who you are along the path to who you want to be.

If I recall right, this incident took place shortly after a waitress received 10 grand for posting a receipt online with a racist slur instead of a tip (the veracity of that story is also in question). I bet this waitress was hoping to cash in too. And it appears it was working.

There had been wait staff as well as customers getting negative comments on their receipts.  These have gone viral with $$ payback.  She's just cashing in with the tide.  When things like this goes viral, other people start to get suspicious and eventually someone gets caught in a lie.

1)  Pretty much all of these "racist receipt" stories are hoaxes.  It's just someone trying to get attention, or money.  I suspect that most of the people who post these receipts online have some kind of personality disorder.

2)  The evidence is in favor of the customers who claim to have left a tip and to have not written any comments on the receipt.

3)  Morales said that she would donate the money she was given to Wounded Warrior Project.  When a journalist contacted the Wounded Warrior Project to inquire as to the amount of money they received from Morales, WWP said that they haven't received any money from Morales.

For something as big as this, she could even be faced with criminal charges.  Fraudulently claiming discrimination, and then accepting monetary donations because of that claim.  Could be very serious.
