Hi guys, long time lurker, first time poster :), still trying to work it out a bit so apologies if I do something wrong.

I live pretty close to Dr Bartholomeusz but there aren't any before after pictures or other resources I could find on the internet apart from one guy's video and a post that painted him in a less than favourable light. I have just called up his office and they are getting back to me tomorrow about whether he will operate on someone my age.

Already have an appointment with Dr Hassall but I just want the things gone and with her I will apparently only be having my surgery this time next year :( and I really don't want that wait considering personally I don't like her technique (not saying it looks bad, she has some amazing results, just personal preferences).

Does anyone have any info about Dr Bartholomeusz or know where I can see pictures of his work?

Thanks guys (btw, laughing at the verification questions)

Hi, Sam, and welcome to Susan's. :)

I don't know personally much about Bartholomeusz - he was my section option if Dr. Hassall didn't work out (I'm having surgery with her in 5 weeks).  I also couldn't find much in the way of pictures, etc. for Bartholomeusz's results, which is why I was wholly convinced to go with Hassall anyway.

There is at least one guy on this forum who had his surgery done by Bartholomeusz - he doesn't post much anymore, but perhaps he'll see this thread.  You may want to try and do a search on this forum via the search option and type in Bartholomeusz's name.

Sorry guys, getting a bit ahead of myself. Got the call back from his office and he reckons it would be illegal for him to operate on me due to my age. There is so much misinformation about treating transgender people under 18 in Australia but you can't change a surgeon's mind about something like that.

It was a long shot anyway.

Even in the US, it is pretty hard to get surgery under the age of say 18. I'm sure it's done here, but it's all private pay so that the doctors only have to deal with their own issues and not some kind of government stuff. I can't off hand think of a surgeon here who does it say at 16.

Yeah Jay, it is definitely challenging everywhere, but like you say there are no actual restrictions. A surgeon can decide not to operate on someone under 18 for their own reasons, but plenty will still do so. I actually contacted Dr Medalie and another surgeon who's name I now forget and they were willing to operate on me but my mother wasn't happy with me spending all the money that is meant to go towards a good university degree on surgery and flights when we are covered by insurance in Australia (I know I am very lucky to have this money here in the first place). It isn't challenging to get surgery in the USA if you are willing/able to travel and have full parental support. I have seen people who have had their surgery and are able to get on with their lives at 15 (I am older btw).

In Australia there are competency laws, so the surgeon has to believe that someone under 18 is capable of giving consent, AND the surgeon has to be willing to take the additional legal risk of the operation (obviously I take full responsibilities for my actions and the idea of me regretting this surgery is laughable, but there have been a couple of "I changed my mind" lawsuits involving people over 18 here, and if a surgeon operates on a minor regardless of competency the individual would have a stronger case in court if a lawsuit were to happen). Considering how few people routinely perform this operation in Australia, Dr Hassall is the only person who fits this criteria. She does some amazing work but I feel the big, perfectly straight nipple line scars bring more attention to the area than a scar in line with your pec muscles, and I have to wait more than a year for the op at a time when I should be focusing on graduating school with good grades.
