im 21.
im quite positive i have gid.
my parents will not be on board.
and recently ive had violent thoughts toward my own body.
thankfully i havent done anything to myself...
but i dont know how long that could last.
so this is my journey to finally knowing my true self.

If you are so sure you have GID then you should at least find a support group and talk to people. Coming to this site is a good idea.

Also don't be so sure what your parents will do/say. My parents are very conservative, churchgoing people with ridiculously high expectations of their children. I was absolutely sure they'd be against me, and at first they were, but I transitioned anyway and they eventually saw I was not joking and that I was happier.

If I'd given in to harming myself, then I would never have met the amazing partner I have today and also I would never have transitioned. It seemed so impossible until one day I found myself on the other side of it all.

The point is to not give up. Don't do anything stupid out of desperation. I did and it made things worse...so much worse than coming out ever could or did do.

Until then, we are here for you! Don't give up! --->  Ya hear me! Dont!

Hear, hear!  And welcome!  You are among a number of wise and wonderful people (and some, like me, are silly and try to be profound on occasion).  There is so much love and support to be found here for those who reach out for it that I *know* it has helped many, many people profoundly change their lives.  Me, for one.

Please find counseling of some sort... gender therapists aren't just good for helping diagnose and treat GID, they also can help with practical things and coming out to friends and family.

I would not be able to do this alone.

Hey Emo, my parents weren't okay with it either AT ALL.  I was caught cross dressing several times and I got from my dad lots of anger and "ARE YOU GAY!?!?!" and my mother basically just ignored me all-together in life.

I'm not THAT much older than you, but let me say when I was 21 I was totally closeted and I see now that my views were not those of an experienced person. Learn that EVEN IF they are against it, then you must STILL be yourself. Do not live your life for your parents; I tried that and it about killed me. One day you will be their age, and they might have passed away...then what? This is your life dear, and I know right now parents seem like the be-all voice of authority, but that's not the case.

i never said i wasnt going to do it.
i just dont know how im going to handle them when the time comes.

i completely agree tho. im taking steps o come out from under them.
moving out very soon. then hopefully transition soon after.
my SO tells me im happier when im in "raine mode" so im going for it wether anyone approves or not. \(>_<)/

Seriously I have been exactly where you are except you have the brains to try to deal with it now. Ohhh how I wish I started when I was 21, then I'd be so much further in and then I might consider myself a bit smarter too.

Yes, what you are considering is the toughest part of transition...the beginning...but I find the further from that day I get, the more I feel like regular Amelia. Even in my memories I must constantly That is a strange experience! Today I am just me, and there are life's ups-and-downs, but they are like ripples compared to the wave we overcome by transitioning. You will be stronger for it.

My sister gave me the best advice ever when I came out to her, (you hear it there and here): "OWN IT! OWN being trans!". When someone stands up and owns who they are, then no-one can deny them because it comes from within.
