If I could live another hundred years, I'm sure I'd see the eventual rise of gene related therapies to help transgender people fully become themselves. But in five or ten years? No, I don't think it will happen that fast.
One thing that I do believe may happen within the next 30-40 years is that we may be able to grow ovaries from modified stem cells and place those in transgender women, so they have a natural source of estrogen available at all times. We may also see stem cells used to generate more flexible and natural vaginal tissue for vaginoplasty, eventually resulting in no need to dilate long term. There is always a need to dilate immediately after surgery, as this also retrains the muscles in that area to behave properly in a female fashion rather than in a male fashion. But the need to dilate to maintain the neo-vagina may go away longer term as medical science advances.
The advances we read about today are going to be decades in coming to human therapies. They're wonderful to read about, but don't delay your own transition waiting for a "Star Trek" quality transition. You might be waiting a really long time.
