I tried to be there for him.. I helped him get through it once.. But i had to sleep.... And that could have cost him his life...

One of the first things you are taught in suicide counselling courses is that YOU are not responsible for the actions of others. Yes we try our best be that person a friend or an anonymous person, but we are not responsible.

I have had the terrible experience of listening to a person blow their head off with an automatic weapon. The first bullet would have killed them, I had to listen to all 18.

It haunts me, but I live and function because I am not responsible for that girls actions.

Yes, we have a duty to try our best, but our higher duty is to protect ourselves. Be that with sleep or getting out of the way either physically or emotionally.

You should not feel bad about your horrible experience in anyway at all.

Love

@cindy
Im sorry you had to go through such a traumatic experience.
I would not have been able to handle something like that.

You make a good point tho... But if theres anything i can do to alleviate the situation i try to take that step. Ive never lost a friend to violence especially self inflicted and i dont want it to start.

The responsibility for another person's life is not a burden you want to carry.  That person is a free agent, able to make decisions for themselves.  If your friend is seriously intent on killing themselves, the best thing you can do is let everyone who loves that person know there is a problem.

People do make their own choices and decisions in life. When they mess up and I have to show up as a Paramedic is it MY fault if they die by their own actions/choices? A BIG NO. I try to save them, but if it does not work I tried my best and go on to the next call. Did I ever feel bad I could do nothing about the situation? Of course, but I know I did nothing to cause the problem, worked as hard as I could and my conscience is clear. That is what you have to realize.

I dont mean to be disrespectful or anything but this situation is more of a preventative thing.

I hope that your friend is okay

Superficial fanny kissing friends are a dime a dozen, a TRUE FRIEND however is PRICELESS

One of my friends wondered why people who no one believes in have an "easier" time believing in themselves than people who everyone else believes in. I wonder why she thinks that.
That prompted me to muse that people who no one believes in have had to fight for their belief in oneself whereas people who others believe in haven't had to. This apparently offended on of my friend's friends and she claims that people with great support systems have to fight as hard.
While I conceded that I can't understand what someone with a different life has had to go through, I still feel kind of insulted by this. It's kind of like telling me that all that I have faced (and faced alone) is as easy as someone who hasn't had to go through that stuff. At the same time though, I am wary of saying anything that could possible offend this stranger because I don't want to deal with her.
Now, my mind is full of thoughts on how certain life experiences can make things seem easy in comparison and how it may give someone an edge because they already know they can make it.
I was speaking to someone the other week who only knows what has happened in the past few years of my life. They expressed surprise that I was able to make it and claimed they hadn't thought I could. It's ego boosting, but is weird to me. What I have accomplished in the past few years was easy compared to the years before that.
Sorry I ramble about stuff no one cares about.

I dont think all life is easy for anyone. Different people deal with different aspects of life easier than others based on how one is raised, or brain chemistry, or any other number of factors.
We all go through different life experiences but all we can do is be there for each other and try a little empathy and understanding.

It's just random musings over an odd comment my friend made. I can't really say if it's true or not. I currently have no way to test it and my current information (or lack thereof) does not give an adequate understanding.

Speaking of psychology, another friend and I got on the subject of the effects of othering individuals. There are aspects of that I also want to study, but am unfortunately unable to.
Ugh! I wish there was a reliable way to see other people's subjective experiences. That would make research so much easier.
I wonder if I could team up with an engineer or something and find some way to do it.
Hmm. I wonder how much funding psychology research gets anyway.
I wonder if I can take over the world using psychology.

I noticed! Thanks! Hence the continued fanboy brain rambling. It's so exciting isn't it? One comment can lead to so many questions. Brains are fascinating. I like how all the factors work together to form one individual like pieces of an extremely complex puzzle. I want to take them apart and see how they work. Except we currently can't. Yet.

Thanks! I'm planning on going into neuroscience or genetics actually. Neuroscience is what I am most passionate about, but genetics has a lot of potential and exciting things happening.

Thats so cool. I used to want to be a scientist when i was a kid but that gave way to my creative side. Lol
But i hope for the best for you in whichever field you choose. ^__^
  •

Edge

Thanks! Hey, scientists are very creative. (Not actually offended, just very passionate about science.) What do you want to do now?

Animation, cartooning, storytelling.
I have a very massive imagination and i want my "universe" to be shared with the world. And also use it to teach love and acceptance among other things through this storytelling. I love scifi tho so id incorperate plausible things... In my universe anyways. Lol
