As transgender women and men, we do not comply with societies gender norms. We be who we are for the sake of love and happiness.
But ive been thinking. Are we just a buncha people with a brain that doesnt match our bodies? Or are we a movement? Will we finally rid this world of gender norms in time? Will we be that guiding light to a better, more accepting tomorrow?

I am beginning to accept being transgender. The denial is starting to fade. And the want, nay, the need to follow my heart, to be the woman im supposed to be is becoming increasingly stronger.
In a way, this site is a sort of therapy for me. The fear of letting my parents know who i am is beginning to go and i hope to tell them in the next month (as im moving out :p).
I still dont want my genitals and want srs to be rid of them. But im glad im finally getting to know myself and i cant wait to explore my real mind. All windows open and doors ajar.

Hi Emo!
There are studies underway at this time that are starting to prove there are people with brains geared to the opposite sex. One promising study is of the Bed Nuclei of the Striata Terminalis. It shows there are fewer neutrons sent from the Medulla into the Amigdula in female brains than in male brains. Unfortunately these are post mortem studies (autopsy) and no test exists for living trials yet. Some of the male brains tested were sending female level neutrons into it's Amigdula. Those test subjects were, wait for it.......Known transgendered! So science is starting to realize something we have known for a while, there could be a logical biological and scientific reason we feel like we do. Another study that was not controlled was the study of Diethylstilbestrol Hormone given in utero. In the late 50s to the early 70s some mothers were given (DES) to protect against premature births in high risk pregnancies and babies with RH factor were given it at birth. I was personally exposed to this drug. The informal study showed that 25.6% of 1,000 babies exposed to (DES) grew up to become, wait for it again......transgendered! Out of the rest 17.0% identified as gay and around 9.0% identified as Bisexual. This drug was stopped in or around 1975.  Only about 3% identified as hetero. Hope this helps some. 

Jessica, where do you find those awesome studies? heh.  That is definitely some interesting research.  I wonder if scientists will find a way to test living subjects, not just those of the deceased.

I love this stuff. The research on things like this always interest me.

Some are here, others all over the net. I try to keep up with Endocrinology, Trauma care, Psychology today, Harvard studies, Yale studies, doctoral thesis's, scientific journals, New England Journal of Medicine, etc. I started reading them when I was a Paramedic. It payed to be top of your game when dealing with people's lives. Keeps you out of lawsuits to have the latest procedures and stuff. I am not any better than anyone else, I just read a lot.

Yes I do Emo. Remember, I was directly exposed to (DES) both in utero and given it by I.V. after birth. It is closely related to Estrogen.

A friend of ours found this for me. Our brains have grown differently than male or female. We are truly 3rd gender.

There are actually people in government giving serious thought to acknowledging 3rd gender right now. The proof is starting to come out from a scientific viewpoint. It won't be tomorrow, but it is I think on the horizon.

There is quite a bit of study coming forward now. The WPATH conference has several talks listed.

If you go to Google Scholar search for transgender studies you will get some references.

My Mum had three miscarriages and was put on DES - then what came along? The much wanted son - who wasn't!

I hope no-one legalises a thrid gender - although I seem to think there are countries that do - India - as once its a third there will be demands for a fourth, fifth etc until Noah will fill his next Ark with genderqueers.

Quite apart from DES there needs to be a study done of the guys who worked in estrogen plants and got breasts and altered behaviour to see if any of those decided to live as the opposite sex or if they had children susceptible to various gender problems.

If it only takes a tiny drop of testosterone to change a baby from female to male at 6 weeks it follows that there may be many chemical cocktails out there in the cattle and fruit farms that could be responsible for gender switching at the 6 weeks mark.

Thalidomide makes babies without limbs and their babies also miss limbs so who knows the long term effect of DES of anything else?

Personally I think a lot of gender problems and confusion about body image are due to the unisex outfits worn by the crew of Star Trek - it shoudl be compulsory for all children to be forced to sit and watch Gone With The Wind to firmly establish gender roles in their minds before unisex fashions corrupt their thoughts.

any third gender would be able to use the bathrooms of the other two genders as pee orifices are very much in the same place on all bodies.

There is likely no one single way anyone is born the way they are born.

I support evolutionary process, and evolution is not a slow steady roll of the dice over and over just waiting for mutations to just randomly happen.

Humans only exist because mother nature has to our limited knowledge, tried to eliminate all life on this planet 11 times that we can point to.

11 times, so much life was brutally and violently obliterated, and then something took advantage of nothing better than just not dying.

We didn't end up here from a long boring process of uninterrupted slow tedious change.

Right now our species is stomping around the planet trashing it here and polluting it there. That isn't going to have NO effect, even if we don't appear to have the observational skill to actually get the details 100% correct.

How much of my being born like this, is as a result of blind stupidity on the part of our species eh? We saturate our food and water and air will a lot of really dumb things. It's not having NO effect.

Am I an evolutionary step in the scheme of life?
I'm sure not some twisted notion of some imaginary evil being trying to screw up life for a batch of humanity in love with some old ideas of how we all got here.

I am not just some boring biology that is hard to explain.

I've read rather startling things medical science can do these days. Maybe in 100 years a person will be able to just plain pick the body they want to have the way they buy a car or house.

One thing that will never change though, people will continue to hate change.

Emo, I'm happy  that you are accepting yourself. This is important for your own well being. I don't know if there were any chemical imbalances when I was developing but I'm not really your macho male. I like flowers just as much as I do football. My brother hates pink while I love it. I don't hate being male;it's that prefer the feminine.
