I am amused by this guy as well, but there's another thing. There are guys who have to bind all their lives as they can't ever afford top surgery. Those of us who have it are privileged. I am happy I could afford it. It isn't nice to hear about privileged dudes complaining about their privilege (esp if they got some of it from others).

I think that is what irked me about his complaining. That others in our community were very generous in helping this one individual when there are soooo many who genuinely need assistance, and then he looks ungrateful. Not only that but he lives in a Country where he could have gotten the surgery taken care of for free but chose not to because he didn't like the results of where they wanted to send him. Some on here know of my situation. I've been binding for 14 years and feel like I'm in a race against time trying to get my top done before I need another surgery due to my kidney cancer. I've been offered donations by people on here. I didn't take them because other people need to save that money for themselves. I'm no more important than they are. So yeah, that ungrateful guy bugged me. I do think he has issues other than just trans though so I didn't call him out on anything. Others did though, lol.

Did you go directly back home after surgery or to a hotel since you were out of town? Is there anything you would have changed about your top surgery, surgeon choice, or recovery if you had it all to do over again?

Well I'm having mine in exactly 21 days, so I hope that I'm qualified to answer.

I picked my surgeon based on two factors - the looks of her results and her reputation within the community.  Some people consider her (Dr. Megan Hassall) to be the "Garramone" of Australia.  She uses a unique incision (across the nipples vs. underneath the moobs) and I like the way that the scar is less noticeable than the under-the-moob incision.

Essentially, I should list the third factor - I couldn't have surgery in my home state (South Australia) because IT IS ILLEGAL HERE.  I had no choice but to find an interstate surgeon, so there is no local option for me.

I will be staying in hospital for up to 4 days after the procedure (apparently, we aren't sent directly home as an outpatient in Australia like you are in the States) and will then be staying in a furnished apartment for 2 weeks after that.  This has come at a tremendous expense as we have now booked the apartment and it will cost us $3000.

At this stage, I don't know how everything will work out - so I can't tell you what I would or wouldn't change if I could - but so far, I wouldn't change a thing other than waving a magic wand that would transform the ridiculous legislation in South Australia.

Of course, anyone can answer who would like. I have seen some of Dr Hassall's work and she is brilliant. When I first seen photos of someone who had went to her I was bummed she wasn't in the States. That is steep for just the apartment to stay at for a few weeks but I'm sure after it's all said and done the cost won't matter. I wish you well and happy healing. Be sure to check in and let everyone know how you're doing.
