...... in the bible it says a womans hair is her glory, That's one reason why.

I can't help but laugh and laugh at this statement. I've known many women that cut their hair. Some even  :o shaved their heads! BURN THE HEATHENS AT THE STAKE! ::)

Well, Brandon is actually right about the view of long hair and women from the Bible. He didn't say he thinks that way but there are some families that do take that stance. I came from such a family. In the church I grew up in females couldn't even wear pants, so yes...while it's not right some subscribe to that way of thinking. The verse he is referring to:

1 Corinthians 11:15 'But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering.'

That being said, once I got old enough I still cut my hair when I lived at home and gave my dad that 'whatcha gonna do' look, lol.

But my point is that doesn't matter. I don't care about what some book says and plenty of other people don't either. If a woman wants to cut her hair then she's going to do it. Hell, I run across plenty of women who absolutely hate long hair and they are always asking me why I don't cut it, even in the dog days of summer.

Again, you're missing the point. He is talking about how his overly religious mother thinks of things and how that relates to his life. To him it does matter because it is making his life a living Hell at this point as he is stuck under her roof. I've been there and it's rough, I feel for him.

No I'm not. I've ran across enough religious types to last a lifetime. I am painfully aware of their viewpoints, both right and wrong, skewed and accurate. It's all the same.

That's a huge generalization Brandon. There are many Christian families who do NOT teach that as well, so please do not use your family to generalize the entire religion.

Brandon was explaining what he has been taught and his Mother's understanding of the following verses:

1 Corinthians 11:13 Judge in yourselves: is it comely that a woman pray unto God uncovered?

11:14 Doth not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him?

11:15 But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering.

That is not a "generalization," but rather, a tenet of the form of the religion she practices.  As a practical matter, should Brandon get his hair cut in a male style, he will be going against his Mother's beliefs.  It is a difficult situation, as she does not accept him as a guy.  I rather think you owe Brandon an apology.

Okay, so some people take the bible very literally.  Most other people do not.  A lot of meaning has been lost through translation as well as through the changing of times, and a vast number of people recognise this.  Even if we're taking the bible literally then either way Brandon could be construed as going against the bible, either as a woman who's cut her hair, or as a man who has longer hair.  He has to choose whether to take the meaning which improves his life and health, or the meaning which will appease his mother.  Seeing as his mother isn't God, or knows the ins and outs of God's teachings or thinkings, then it's down to Brandon whether he cuts his hair or not.

Please don't disrespect the bible, Its not just a book, I'm not saying I agree with it but as simon pointed out it is true, and their are women who still cut their hair, Don't disrespect me or my religion, And that so called book can save you and has alot of good stuff in so don't even go there

Laugh all you want but it's true,  was just stating one possible reason for why spme women may not cut it. Their are some women who don't care and do it anyways

Well actually you guys that scripture is not the reason my mom doesn't want me to get a haircut ,she wanted me to cut it at one point because its not growing, She just doesn' know how, My mom actually had short hair in highschool, But she ended up growing it back out. The reason she doean't want me to cut is because she doesn't want me looking like a boy.

It's really not, And if your not African American you wouldn't understand. My counselour told me that African American families are way harder on Lgbt and how asome of them are against it, But this is not even the discussion though.

That is absurd and you know it. I don't care what some dude says. Bigotry comes in all colors. Anyone who believes that one group has a monopoly on bigotry is a fool.

I'm locking this while I reflect on some posts.

I see no reason why religion is being argued in such a way.
