Aussie Jay

Greetings one and all - Happy 2014!

As the title says, I wrote an article for a national blogger here in Australia. I was going to share straight off but I was unsure of if that was allowed in this sites terms etc?? I don't want to break any rules... And then I actually wondered if anyone would actually be interested?! So if you are I will attach it and if it is not allowed I apologise in advance!!

I've spent the morning having an online argument with a man who cannot see anything but his own spiritual opinion and how this is all in my head, and I can change the way I think, and I should have tried harder to live as a woman - this is just an avoidance tactic. It's been infuriating and empowering all at the same time. You may be able to see some of the comments and responses via the bloggers facebook page if you're interested?! But I was just wondering - how do you deal with people just unwilling or unable as the case may be to see anyone's opinion but their own??!

Cheers

Not much you can do about it baby. Some people are just so close minded that they will never accept anything, but the perceived "normal". Just know you did your best to explain it to them and let it roll off. What I find amusing is, a lot of the time the one's who make the biggest stand about it usually have a skeleton of their own in the closet. They are just to scared to admit it and just trying to put the spotlight on us instead of themselves. Food for thought.  :)

Jessica that was actually one of my thoughts as well!! It's like the most homophobic guy turns out to be homosexual (not that there's anything wrong with that, and it's very stereotypical!) but just the way he was arguing/conversing with me it sounded like he was in the closet (whether trans or otherwise) but I just couldn't believe when he said I could change the way I think by bringing to memory an image of my "opposite sex parent" (he meant my father) and saying the mantra "I forgive you, father".... My father has been nothing but supportive every day of my life - he has nothing to apologise for!! And telling me that "what you're suffering from is what is called being "trapped in your male brain" and that's why you keep 'thinking' that you are male or supposed to be male. It's a pity that you have obviously been given such poor information by trained psychiatrists/psychologists who clearly don't understand their subject well enough" - I almost fell off my chair!!! He just couldn't see any point of view but his own, so frustrating love!! Apologies I just had to vent....

Hi Aussie Jay,

I'd be interested in reading your article. I believe you're allowed to post links as long as there's nothing too bad in it. https://www.susans.org/forums/index.php/topic,2.0.html

I usually don't even bother dealing with people like that, it's not worth the time or energy. The one exception to that is my family who have given me the same argument and I've nearly stopped trying to deal with them too. Sure, I could try harder to live as a woman or even force myself to but I don't want to, I would rather be myself and happy than be miserable struggling to be something I'm not. Some people just need to be left alone to wallow in their own stupidity because no matter how hard you try you'll never be able to open a person's mind until they want it to be opened.

It would be interesting to read the article and see the comments.

Thanks mate appreciate it - I can never find those ToS (I'm bookmarking as I type!).. I don't think there's anything too offensive etc in it. There are a few swear words in some of the posts on facebook but you actually have to delve deep into the responses etc to find them!

The article http://www.mamamia.com.au/social/jay-transsexual-man/

The post https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10151898075000945&set=a.442872830944.204257.142149825944&type=1&theater

If there are any problem please just let me know and I will remove the link or I'm sure a moderator shall do it quicker! I apologise in advance but like I said I am sure there is nothing tooooooooo offensive that will pop up the second you click on the link.

Feel free to let me know what you think :)

I really loved it. I think it was perfectly wrote. Good job Jay  :)

That guys comments made me lol. Maybe he should try reading the book 'You're an idiot' by Hugh G Idiot. I think he's the one with the repressed issues.

Thanks Joe. My first instinct was to find that guy and force his teeth down his windpipe after all those "she's" haha!! But yeah in the end I was amazed at the closed in attitude he has, then I felt sorry for him and how much of this world he's going to miss out on. I'm still surprised by people's stupidity lack of knowledge...

You certainly handled it a lot better than I would have done! I love how he'd suggest for you to read a book and you'd calmy say you've already read it and then gave it a little review haha. Made me chuckle.

Loved your article!  In the comments of one of them, I really liked this quote you posted ...

"People changed lots of other personal things all the time. They dyed their hair and dieted themselves to near death. They took steroids to build muscles and got breast implants and nose jobs so they'd resemble their favorite movie stars. They changed names and majors and jobs and husbands and wives. They changed religions and political parties. They moved across the country or the world -- even changed nationalities. Why was gender the one sacred thing we weren't supposed to change? Who made that rule?" ― Ellen Wittlinger, Parrotfish

Thanks Joe., and well I do have that book, beside my bed in fact! It has some really interesting, thought provoking ideas etc. But it's not Law! And the movie was B grade man...with maybe two or three well known actors! Haha...

And thanks LearnedHand - appreciate the comments, I am very happy where I am :D be even happier after I meet the Belgium team in a couple of week!

And Jamie D - I really love that quote too. It's so true when you think of it like that. "Parrotfish" is a good book too if you ever have the chance to read or download it.

Drop dead looks and brains! You are a real threat to any mans confidence baby!

Cindy

Nice article Jay,

The comments from the guy with strange opinions sounds very familiar for some reason. I think the young woman in the USA who got the homecoming queen award by her school got almost exactly the same stupid comments, in reverse, sent to her.

Unfortunately there are some people whose minds are so closed that they come over as just ignorant jerks.

You may find they are also believers in a flat earth, moon-landing conspiracies, and little green men live in the Nullarbor.

Not worth arguing with them.

Hahaha!! Thanks Jessica :D

And Cindy, you're right as usual! I was very quick to anger but glad I didn't just fly off the deep end and swear, rant and rave. I tried to educate him a little but like you picked up on a lot quicker than me, that mission was futile... I imagine he does think the world is flat and that left handed people go to Hell..!

Thanks everyone :D
