The book's first section, "The Place of Gay Sports in Society," gives a history of gay professional athletes, the stereotypes assigned to them, and the way the athletes were handled by the media. Part two, "Elite Athletes and Big Time Sports," features profiles of out, gay high school and college athletes, an explanation of the problems facing transsexual athletes (most notably golfers) and a gay athletes' guide to coming out.
